Hey guys. Next year my wife and I are coming to Australia for the F1 race in Melbourne. I have a few questions. Where is the best section to sit for the race? Where should we stay that is reasonably priced, and in a good location? What places should we see while in Melbourne? We get into town the beginning of the week. I would like to meet some of you guys, and I'm hoping you are up to meeting me. You listening Pap. Thanks in advance.
Stay in King st bars and clubs around King st. We all do coffee in Chappell st and do laps as our drive day fun.
he's a 348 driver, not used to long drives as for the GP, get a seat on turn 1, costs a fortune but is well worth it in comparison to the rest of Bernie's rip off things to see when in Melbourne .................................................. the airport to go home, it's a desert, frozen tundra has more appeal here's a good tip, fly into Brisbane, jump on a plane to Hamilton Island, catch the boat to Hayman Island, snorkel/scuba dive during the day and get pampered all night by 5 star service then fly into Melbourne on Thursday night (nothing happens on Thursday at the track)
LOL! You guys are a riot. We are just gonna be in Melbourne for the week of the race. Ok so, Turn 1 for the race seats. Check But how about where to stay? Still King Street? Or no?
Whatever location you choose Ernie, try to use wotif.com... so you dont get reamed by hoteliers looking to make their year's profit in one weekend
Ernie, try http://www.wotif.com/ or http://www.lastminute.com.au/ Use Google maps and try and find something on the west side of the city or perhaps South Bank. As Scud indicated the goverment puts on a free Tram service from Spencer Street to and from the circuit each day. Closer to the date we'll try and put something together regarding catching up. Perhaps a drive early in the week??
I don't think Down Under is ready for Ernie! When we went to the F1 last year, we stayed at this place. http://www.hotelclub.com/shop/hotelsearch?type=hotel&hsv.showDetails=true&hotel.hid=318334&hotel.rooms[0].adlts=1&hotel.type=keyword&search=Search&DCSext.mc_kw=pensione+hotel+melbourne&WT.mc_ev=click&WT.mc_id=s4x012&WT.srch=1&gcid=s4x012&lpid=plhot Was very nice and great location. Anywhere in the CBD area is central to everything and it's all walking distance anyways. It's a short tram ride to the track from there also. *Free to the track* The shuttle buses to and from the airport stop across the road there also. So it's pretty convienient. We also sat at turn 1, was actually pretty good. Here is a pic so you get the idea of the view you will have. You watch them come from the main straight on the left and then watch them go through turn one, going right you can see them flying up the track for a hundred yards or so. Sorry I missed your call the other day. Off to Townsville again with the parents today Ernie, talk soon. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Book and google www.wotif.com Historics will be good at the GP,plus Melbourne will be fire with 50 odd V12 front engine Ferrari cars in the area.
Ignore Blackdag. Kings Street is home of the bike strip clubs and to be avoided most weekends. It can be absolutely ferel at times.
LAST YEAR WASN'T IT THIS YEAR!!!! Here is the video you took. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bo_rIWXqiUk[/ame]
I reckon try coming a day or two earlier (if you can) and venture down to Phillip Island for the Island Classic - a great way to kick off the Grand Prix Week. I will be down at the Island for three days (and maybe the Monday as well) then more than likely a busy day Tuesday and then at the AGP from Wednesday for on track activities....
Good looking out. Thanks for clearing that up, because I would have messed up and booked a place. I would like my visit to your country to be a nice one. Not interested in going to the seedy areas, I have WAY too much of that in Los Angeles.
the best stand as far as I'm concerned is the "JONES STAND", on the first corner down the bottom of the straight. The Grand hotel, spencer street is good. And not that far from the track
CBD plenty of good hotels,Hyatt,Hilton,Sofitel,IMO go for the Park Hyatt in east Melbourne. GP and the historic racing, what type of cars are your go?
