has/does anyone here compete/tour/show in these events? i would really like to enter these sometime, and i'm hoping to be able to make classic adelaide next year in my X1/9. i won't be in the full competetive field, i'd be more interested in the fast tourers. if anyone has any experience in these events or is preparing i'd love to hear about it. i'm guessing that aside from car-specific costs, i'd be looking at around $20k needed in the budget. i have no racing reputation (or experience ) and so i'd think the sponsorship i could garner would be basically nil. what other stuff should i start thinking about now to prepare myself for next november?
I'd also like to enter this Rally one-day (Targa). I don't know the requirements but I would think you would need a Race licence with some sought of track experience. Also think you'd need a fair bit of cash and know some people in the right places. I would think there are some people on this forum in the know. It will be interesting to hear the requirements. Good luck ash, used to have a 124, the X1/9 would be fun, which engine do you have in it.
i heard a rumour lately that it's going to be invite only, dunno. 1608 twin-cam from a 124 BC. twin IDF's, ~10.5:1 CR, balanced/lightened/blueprinted, ceramic button clutch, HPC-coated extractors, free-flow exhaust, MSD, koni's... etc nothing outrageous, but a great little package. original (1295cc SOHC) X engine is like 67 stonking horses, the 1608 is 110bhp stock. should be a hoot. hopefully back in the car and driving by xmas.
oh, like i said i don't want to do the full competitive rally, just the "fast tourers", limited to 130km/h average speed or something. last time i checked (year or so ago) it just required a level 2 CAMS license or something... and a cool old car and a wad of cash.
You'll have just as much fun on the East Coast Targa http://www.eastcoasttarga.com.au/ Here's some pics from this event a couple of weeks ago: http://www.thelows.org/cars/ECTarga2004/ and http://www.thelows.org/cars/ect/ Assuming you don't want to go in the full comp class, you don't need anything like $20K. Entry cost is about $4-5K. Car prep another $200 max, then accommodation and food for 4-5 days. Petrol, etc. Of course, the worse case scenario is an accident. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ash, Are you a FIAT club member in adelaide? There were a couple of FIATs did quite well in their classes this year. If you can't find anyone there I may be able to put you in contact with a guy in Bne who was a first time runner this year in 124BC. He had an absolute ball. Cheers, K
i take it that'll be run in say october next year then yeah? i'll pencil that in as a possibility too. i did look stuff up about it and saw your 550 in there, perhaps a link from a report you gave here or something...
yeah, not so active in it the last few months due to my car being off the road for the rebuild since like april. but next year hoping to do a few of the mallala sprints and get the car sorted enough for my mild-petrolheaded tastes. i've spoken to Phil Buggee a couple times, but only about fiat/lancia parts and stuff so he wouldn't have a clue who i am. last time i spoke to him i think he'd just the day before won his class in the targa tas in a 124 abarth and i didn't even have a clue. not sure how he did in adelaide...
I'll bet you drove yours faster than I did mine!!! I remembered just yesterday driving it from Sydney to Melbourne and sitting on about 180kph most of the way and getting 31mpg. In those days it was unlikely that you'd get booked for speeding. These days, it's unlikely that you won't, if you speed, that is.
I'll bet I drove mine faster than all of you !!! I was a total idiot back then, went from an E49 to the fiat AC, then to a BC ... BC way faster but both a hoot and way better than anything that had the same size engine Got a ticket for exceeding the speed limit but over 100 kph in the AC heading up to the Sunshine Coast while in the defense forces
Celebrating a ten year anniversary of digging up old posts are we? Heard there's one about oil leaks too, have you seen it?
