As most of you probably know, after years of people nagging him, Carl Jones has started a lovely new workshop in Coburg. It's an excellent facility, actually, for the sort of work he's going to do. I recently took my car there for a yearly service. I don't know if he's going to specialise in Ferraris only. I don't think he is, but it won't be late model Ferraris anyway, I don't think. I only know of John Allen, Graeme Vincent and Tim at Black Stallion who have as good an understanding as Carl of the carby cars and early fuel injection cars up to, and including the 355/550 (not sure about later cars, never asked) Good mechanics are bloody hard to find, as most of you know, and he's done a fair bit of maintenance on my 308 and 355 now, and I have nothing but praise. He's got enough work to keep him going for years already, I reckon. Anyway, I had a bit of an oil leak from the base of the fitting that the oil filter attaches to. He fixed that and he did something I'm not used to. He fixed it first go! LOL Imagine that. I drove the car around for a while to make sure it was fixed. He told me if the leak were to return he'd attend to it immediately. I'm sure he would have, but I didn't have to test it. He also found a crack in one of the shocker bodies. I don't think too many people would have found that. It's not part of the service procedure, but it's nice to know he's thorough enough to have a good check of everything. I know all mechanics SAY they do it, but the reality is, they don't. Anyway after driving it around for a while to make sure that leak was rectified, I took it back to have the rest of the service finished and for a wheel alignment. I've never experienced anyone who does a better job of that than Carl. Again, Carl being so anally retentive helps, I'm sure. He also has all the best equipment to balance wheels and change tyres with machines that don't touch the rims so no damage can be done. Quite important if you have an exotic with expensive wheels. It's also a big confidence booster when the guy you give your car to and trust your car with is actually the guy working on it...not just handballed to someone else in the workshop. A big thumbs up for me on all points, and the cost was very reasonable too. Here's a photo of my car during the alignment process. Actually I have to get used to not calling it MY car anymore. It's sold. boohoo Image Unavailable, Please Login
That photo's so bad that I thought I'd post a couple from out the front. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's funny you posted about this PP, when just this week Alana has started a lease on her own permanent office in Doncaster East. Yes business is going that well. So what I find amazing is that you know so many successful people, you would think it would rub off on you in some way...
Well, John, for every successful person like Carl, Alana etc who I know, I know someone like you as well.
Is it just a coincidence that your good Vic mechanic and our good Qld mechanic are both Jones's? Does NSW have a good Jones mechanic?
