I need the shoes (pads) replacing on a set of drum brakes. Does anyone know of a place around the Melbourne area that does a good job. Also must be reliable so if they quote 4 days it is 4 days and not a month. Thanks in advance.
Warren, I assume you need some drum linings, re-lined? Some companies like RDA Australia sell new linings off the shelf and this can be a quick and cost effective way to re-new the linings: Rotors & Drums Australia + EBC Brakes, The Big Brakes Company | Home I have not used them, but this place may be worth a try: Shoe Relining And here: ABS. Auto brakes & service. National car servicing, brake clutch car service | Franchise I used to use a local place in Prahran that did it however, sadly, I see they have closed. I am not sure what the car in question is, so I cannot offer any specific advice, except to say if your drums are of the leading/trailing design, I would advise you to have all four drums fitted with renewed linings (Assuming drums on all 4 wheels!!) to preserve the same co-efficient of friction and therefore the 'Self servo" effect.
Thanks guys for all the information. I have been told that BGT do an excellent job. The pads I currently have are to hard. They have a high content of metal in the lining. Looks like a woven pattern on them. That, along with some other facts has produced a noisy front wheel. Getting the drums how they should be is a continual process and possibly with the drums being de-glassed also will help.
In the golden days we used to send drums & shoes to the brake people so when they skimmed the drums they supplied linings of the correct thickness to suit the drums.
Looks like another here who wants, and gets, something for nothing, and gives nothing in return.....like filling his profile.
He restored a beautiful Lusso a couple of years ago... and given the question is on drum brakes I suspect he is up to something amazing so despite being a little reticent I'm prepared to cut him a little slack
So what is the explanation for not answering a couple of relevant questions. Even one of the most security conscious and private people I know here, list their interests. Most of the the folk here have listed their motoring interest/s,as it's a motorcar forum. I own a multi-concour winning,FEOHOS car,as do several other folk here. Some lesser folk, have multi-concour winning M/REHOS,and post here. Probably the best,'glass 308,in Oz,lists his stuff...........we don't necessarily like or agree with him,but he does 'the right thing' Sorry to,possibly offend folk, them's my feelings.
I always laugh at the people who blank out the numberplates, like they can do that on the PUBLIC roads without getting a fine
