I don't have much sympathy for people who step onto a road and get hit by a car/bike/truck or whatever. Am I terrible? You rarely read about someone being run over on the footpath. I believe if you look before you walk onto a ROAD (you know...made for cars etc) it's pretty damn unlikely that you'll get hit by anything. Of course with kids I'd blame the parents, and that would be hideous. I'm talking about adults who know what's what. Discuss.
Up here,North and western Qld,have a high incidence of drunks being run over and, usually, killed from falling asleep on the road.
I get the ****s because these idiots are counted in the road toll ....... technically it is but it is their stupidity
Agree , but what about the lady from my swimming group who was halfway across a controlled crossing in the middle of the city and mowed down by an idiot turning left through a red light who just didn't look? She's been awarded heaps of cash but her leg is ruined...
Free International Travel Advice from me here: A major cause of pedestrians being hit is tourists (includes Australians) who, when overseas, don't take into account vehicles on the "wrong" side of the road. These people don't look the "correct" way for vehicles.
There are rare exceptions, of course. I'd love to see statistics of what the cause was for most pedestrian incidents....and how many wouldn't have happened if the pedestrian was aware of their surroundings.
