I am getting one from Healey factory, imported from Hong Kong years ago Looks and sounds ok My question is does anyone know whether it should be run on leaded or unleaded
Welcome to the madhouse and if you can buy leaded fuel I'll have some with a dash of methyl benzine thank you.
I guess my question should have been is it safe to run on unleaded or will I need to put an additive in the fuel
I used to run BP 98 as my previous injected & carburetted Ducati's preferred the BP 95 octane fuel. The gt4 however, discovered by accident; absolutely purrs on the Shell 98.
I'm happy to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that you can run all 308s on unleaded because they already have hardened valve seats, which was otherwise the problem. I lived in Warrnambool for a few years in the 80s. Even had a Ferrari or two there! Not common, that's for sure. Where will you get work done?
People have said the Shell 98 doesn't like sitting for long periods in the tank - which unfortunately can happen with my car.
Shell 98 has additives that cause problems (will literally go to jelly if it sits too long). BP or Mobil 98 is fine. For the OP there are lots of old threads on this you could search.
Thread some time ago; also heard the same thing from the Canberra Alfa mechanic who first alerted me to the problem with Shell Optimax fuel.
Riiiiiiiiight. So the Canberra Alfa mechanic is a chemist as well, with inside info to shell.....or...??
Safe to run on unleaded, but a lot of people also run additives. Fuel: I use BP Ultimate 98 if possible. M
For me, BP Ultimate 98 gave the best results ( power ) on the dyno in the WRX ( compared to Optimax 98), which is consistent with what I have read in the WRX forurns,
I own a 1982 QV and use Shell 98 Optimax. Have had no problems and runs well. I've been using it for a few years.
It's fantastic, better than my previous 328 GTS in terms go headroom, 6 foot 1 plus and gearbox is smoother Fixed a few little problems, aerial neede pulling apart and straighten , now works perfect Later radio had a cd lock, once I read the manual and unlocked it, it's all perfect Same with glovebox ,need ignition on, then press button! Only major problem left is sunroof which is not fully closed, but found good thread here on how to fix, just need time to get round to it Still not sure on fuel so will run with additive to be sure
