If there's already a thread about this feel free to delete - I'm too lazy to look past the first page of threads...

Anyway, I think I will head across for this.
Not sure if I should drive or send the car over on transport?

Before anyone says, it's not about the k's - I don't care about that.
It's more that most of the drive is boring as bat****, and unless in a convoy I'd rather meet the car there.

Presumably a lot of you guys will be going?

Depends on how much time you have and if you view the drive as a "transport stage" or part of the holiday. I think there will be a few people driving from S.A, so shouldn't be too hard to arrange a group, or share the cost of a transporter if that's what you decide.

I've done Canb-Adl in a day a few times, (including in the 308 GTB ), and its never boring, what with dodging kangaroos, the NSW & Vic Hwy Patrol, wombats, grey nomads and trucks doing 130Kph +.

Haha! I am a bit of a sook.

But when it's boring in the aircraft I just read the paper, or browse FChat.

Can't really do that in the car.

Huh? Forget the highway and take the coast road; I agree the SA section is boring but once you get into Vic it's pretty speccy Ocean Road to Queenscliffe, take the ferry across to Sorrento avoid Melb then head east and either go over the Alpine Way from near Bairnsdale (E-W on Vic side, then W-E on the NSW side) OR continue to Cann River and take the excellent road (B23) up through Bombala and then the nice coast road from around Bega to Sydney. There are plenty of places where you could scoot back to the highway if you're running out of time.
But maybe consider transporting car over and driving home.

Fair point. For me it would mainly be a time thing.

How long would you need to allow to get from ADL - SYD along that route?

ADL- Sorrento could be done in a day / day1/2 if you didn't stop to admire the stuff along the GOR; have done Syd-Cann River in a day BUT did highway Syd - Queanbeyan then cross country. Coast road would be a bit longer but probably not more than 1/2 day extra. Alpine Way requires half a day either side, again depending on how much admiring you do along the way. If it was me, I'd probably take 4 days for a leisurely drive back Syd-Bega (o/n)-Bombala-Cann River (o/n) -Sorrento-Queenscliffe (o/n some along GOR, Apollo Bay?)-Warnambool and then head to the highway for the last dash home. Just my 10c, but touring Australian country in your Ferrari is, IMHO, one the best things you'll ever do.

    That does actually sound great.

For me it will come down to how much time I can get off work. I'm pretty sure I couldn't get enough time off to drive both ways, so based on what you've said there you would recommend a leisurely scenic drive home?

(Assuming of course that I haven't destroyed my car by showing it a track in Sydney and it is capable of making the trip home...)

Transport to the venue so you're not stressed about getting there in one piece, leisurely drive home... Ask the experts here if what I've proposed is reasonable. I've done all the stages (at different times) in my 308, passengered in an Fcar for the (quicker than I could manage) Bombala -Cann River section.

Righto, I've received several emails about this now.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to just do the track day only?
Or the track day and one or two other things?

From what I gather there is a package which includes everything (all the dinners etc), but I don't see other options as yet.

As much as I'd like to do everything the reality is I won't be able to get that much time off work. However I could probably get the car transported over, show moretti a clean pair of heels at the track, maybe do one or two other activities, and then drive home as Karen has suggested.

    :)

Long way to go for a track day... If you haven't done a national rally before, it's great fun!
Generally you need to subscribe for the whole rally - only if there are gaps in the bookings you MAY get a spot last minute. The rally package is generally very good value - great food and wine plus entertainment, track day etc. I haven't looked at the offer from 4 Seasons as I can't attend, but I suspect it could be eyewatering and you could get a much better deal close by, You WON'T be spending much time in your room!

All booked and paid, not staying at the suggested hotel, just across the way at Darling Harbour, I need a walk after those FNR dinners and boring speeches by the Ferrari president :p

Plus, as he is bringing his 355CH it gives me an opportunity to see how the pros do it :)

Take the wing off Michael and join the men :D

Ok, here's my problem with this event

It seems very "all or nothing"

ie. you either commit to (and pay for) the whole week, and the several thousand $ that would cost, or you don't bother at all?

Not everyone who owns a Ferrari is retired, or living a life of permanent leisure.
For some people getting more than a couple of days off work is difficult.

I'd like to go to the track day and maybe one or two other things, but it seems that that is not possible unless I commit to the entire circus.

    Have I missed something?
