Hi All I'm off to KL in a couple of weeks for our wedding anniversary, yes celebrating 20 years of torture. Anyway any recommendations for things to do while there would be great. Also sorry I didn't make the dinner at Melbourne but I heard that James Packer was on the bones of his ass so spent a lot of time making a donation in his gambling den. Hence the trip to Kl to keep the peace. Thanks in advance
Congratulations on the twenty year anniversary. Petronas Towers is a must. Malaysian people are veeeeerrrrry proud of the building. It definitely does dominate the skyline of KL and it really put the city on the map. You have to purchase tickets in advance for a viewing time, but they will be for the same day. I think the walk connecting the two towers is on about level 44. Pretty cool. The walkway was one of the locations where "Entrapment" starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones was filmed in 1999. There is a large display and history of the building of the building in the basement/lower level. The Petronas Towers have a very interesting feature which I won't outline here as I wouldn't want to spoil it for you. There is also a large shopping centre with I think about 6 floors of shopping in the Towers which I am very sure you and your wife will enjoy. Amazing food in KL with eclectic variety and some great Portugese Chicken dishes. All very cheap and good. Please give us all a review on your return.
Pool bar at the Traders hotel (close to Petronas Towers) is great rooftop bar at the G tower is good too
I've spent a lot of time in Malaysia, my advice, leave the wife at home! Any reason why K.L. as it's a rather large city, like many other rather large cities? Why not spend a few days there to do your shopping then head to Malacca? Penang is also worth a trip, nice old architecture and wonderful Hokkien fare.
We are actually staying at the traders hotel in a deluxe king club room as it came highly recommended by a good pal
I hear ya I'm not a fan of huge cities. Well the missus wanted to go and to be serious she never really asks for much so I let her decide on KL I'm sure she will love the shops and the hotel sounds good so to be honest I'm quite happy to just kick back, have a few beers and watch the world go by. I was going to see if I could see if it was worthwhile looking for an exhaust for the car while I'm there but that's probably a waste of time.
Pavilion and Suria KLCC are the main shopping centres in KL..your wife will love it there but admittedly there's not much bargains to be had. Chinatown markets are a bit cheap and full of the same fake crap that you would find in Thailand or Bali.. I went there back in March to watch the race,,pity you couldn't have gone at that time, killed two birds with one stone..
Well got back yesterday and re the review here goes. First of all traders hotel was fab!! We had a club room so this entitles you to some priveleges, high tea between 2.30 and 4.30 and cocktails with nibbles between 5 and 7 . Both restaurants where great and had a huge seafood buffet on the Friday nite which nearly killed me! Sky bar was great for chilling out looking at the towers and the staff so helpful. As for KL itself heaps of shops great places to eat but that was about it really. All I really did was just follow this missus through shops n drink in the afternoon. I did look at some of the tours but there wasn't anything that interested me! Would I go back? Probably not. I think Singapore is more my liking and next time I go to Malaysia it will be away from the city. Great people though and could definitely teach us a thing or two in manners!
