Was reading the F1 section (always worth a laugh) and they are banging on about Kimi's brain fart, is he an idiot (rhetorical) , are the Silverstone track managers at fault (rhetorical), blah blah blah

Anyway, as a lot here have driven most tracks in Oz I was wondering which track is the safest and which one is the scariest.

For mine Lakeside puts an edge on the waiting time going out to the track whereas QR feels like I'm going out on the south east freeway with no speed limit.

EC is hairy with no wing on turn one but the rest felt easy enough to a novice.

Mallala is fun , SPlains in Tassie I like and only had pucker at the U turn.

I am hanging out to have a go at Phillip Island, Winton, Sandown, Barbagello.

Lakeside is said to be the fastest track in Oz, does anyone KNOW if this is true ?

I feel sorry for that 355. All its previous success is about to be flushed down the toilet.

That's what happens to old, worn out race cars.
They progressively get bought by slower and slower drivers.

    :D

3 seconds slower than one year ago, I'd say.

If you hadn't fallen behind in the Avco payments, you could have saved it.

I don't know which one would be the safest, but I think this pic I took in 2001 probably suggests the most dangerous.

This is the viaduct at Longford, Tasmania. Chris Amon in a P4 held the record there (For an Australian circuit) at over 120 mph until Albert Park re-opened in 1996 with the F1 cars.

Sadly, Timmy Mayer died at the viaduct in 1964.

I would have nominated Catalina Park in the Blue Mountains, for its corners lined with railway sleepers.

But Longford probably claimed more drivers.

I think lakeside is probably the most dangerous. Have a read of this thread!

    Lakeside bites again

Wakefield is pretty safe. Not so fast, and not much to run into

In the early eighties to the late 90's I did a lot of lakeside track days with Ferrari club, BMW club and RX7 club.

It was a lot rarer for there to be a day without a big accident or two (or 3 or 4!) than there be one.

I reckon at least 20 or 25 big ones plus lots of minor ones.

Quite a few written off or huge repair bills.

I've seen the WRX boys hit the wall at the end of the straight at Wakefield.

I seem to remember PSW did some damage to his 328 at Lakeside many moons ago

The Kink taken flatout only needs the smallest mishap for something serious to go wrong and thanks to JohnT I found out the loop can be tricky

I remember going through the Kink at around 195. Looks easy enough, however had a moment and at that speed where the rear end wobbled (both;))was plenty scary with a huge wall looming.

Definitely a track to respect. That's why the Drivers Briefing there is always mandatory in my experience.

I'd definately say Lakeside is scariest, but also most fun and most satisfying when you get (close) to correct.
My experience to date: Surfers Paradise, Lakeside, QR, Mallala, Barbagallo, Winton (all in the 308 except SP).

Gee, now you have me thinking...driven lakeside, surfers paradise, darlington park, Morgan park, Queensland raceway, Oran park, Calder, sandown, Phillip island, Wakefield park and some go kart track in Canberra that was used for a AFR rally.

I forgot Morgan Park, which is odd because I really like it. QR is boring IMHO?... I'd love to drive Phillip island...

    What about AIR?

I know my old man was involved in stopping bike racing there 20 or 30 years ago after at least one fatality.

Anyone ever driven it in their Ferrari?
