    Just a quick note since folks from around the world (including some nice Fcar drivers!) have been contacting me to see how things are in HK - was scary Sunday night when I was in China and getting news of tear gas and even tanks being mobilized, but calm, peaceful protests at present for National Day. Central parts of the city are totally blocked and trams and many buses are suspended or re-routed. Airport operating normally (ie 30% of being delayed...) A pain for the affected businesses and tourists in Central/Admiralty/ parts of Wanchai and Causeway Bay/ Mong Kok. Quiet morning by the pool this morning for me :)

    I was in Shenzhen for 2 weeks, wanted to go to HK to pick up my iphone 6+, but kinda scared I'll get picked up for looking terrorist-ish if i don't shave :D

    Staying put in Shanghai for the time being :p

    Really no idea... Beijing is not of course going to budge so I guess authorities here will just sit tight until protestor numbers dwindle so they can at least clear the road OR public sentiment moves against the protestors. At present most ordinary folk, and definately huge majority of young people, support the protestors. It's a Quixotic quest though...

    I'm confused as to why anyone is protesting.

    The BBC, ABC, Fairfax, Labor, Greens, trade unions, Julia Gillard, etc sincerely believe, and tell us repeatedly, that socialism is the perfect solution for human society.

    China is the 2nd last socialist state (with North Korea) so therefore perfect.

    Why are their people so unhappy? Why are their authorities, who are full of nothing but love for the people, obliged to send them to gulags, or drive tanks over them?
