Nice choice Carl. I don't have any leads.... just wanted to wish you luck in finding the right car. Are you tending more towards one than the other?? Also, if a 550, self shifter or flappy paddles?

Dan, would prefer a 550 (All were manual BTW) but condition will count more than anything. The F1 575 actually works quite well, not the fastest shift around but whom cares! There were no Australian delivered 575s in manual, so there's no choice if you'd like a local 575. Thanks for the good wishes!

My mistake, I thought there was an option on the 550. I'll keep a look out!!

In sport mode, with the pedal floored and above 5000rpm, the 575 F1 changes very quickly. Not DSG quick but much faster than a manual box. I suspect they set it up for slower lower revs changes for the sake of gearbox life, given this was the first generation of robotised V12 transaxle.

I was no fan of the F1 when I got the car, but I've grown to quite like it.

    There ya go!

As long as you want a barge to drive that's hardly better than an SL55 or F-Type jag, neither of which require regular timing belt changes or smash their sumps on the ground over road irregularities.

Sell that HOS and get a proper car, FFS.....you know you want to.

IanB in a 575 is an aberration

first of all good luck with the hunt:), there aren't many available atm.
i am all for Aus delivered cars but if a 575 came up in Australia with stick, it would be rare as hens teeth. i know which one i would prefer, even if it was an import.
i have not driven either, comparing the two which would be better to drive in stick?
what would be better long term?

I'm more concerned about this at the moment, 2nd attempt at a March clutch, still sitting in the UK!

Here now and installed, so I'm in good shape for the Tasman meeting at EC weekend after next.

Are you in Coventry? AP are there, could be handy in the future. :)

Me thinks prices for the 575 might get a bump.
550 has jumped with a recent sale for $170k and of course nil stock.
575 probably still an easier car to live with , maintenance wise , than a 550. Lots of little bugs ironed out.

I agree that 575's are underrated and likely to benefit from 550 demand, but they can only go so far before encountering 599's on the way South. Realistically, a 599 is a 200K car now.

It's interesting that a good 355 is worth more than an comprable 360.
I think production numbers have a huge influence and there are many more 360s than 355s and many more 599s than 575s.
I would not be surprised to see a 550 worth more than a 599 soon with the 575 F1 not far behind and the very few 575 manuals worth more than all the others.

I can understand why a 550 might be worth more, to some, than a 599....some people just want a manual front engine V12. but a 575 worth more than a 599?? that would be madness....the 599 is a much much better car, and you can't get either in manual.
