Dear Ferrari Experts, I am having difficulty deciding between a late-model Australian delivered 328GTS (with ABS) or an earlier imported 328GTB. Both are in the right colour combination, are in similar condition and have similar klms. I know far fewer GTBs were produced and they were not sold new in Australia, but would their relative rarity be offset by an Australian delivered GTS with ABS? Appreciation in future value is an important consideration for me. Your considered views would be greatly appreciated.
There was only ever one Australian delivered 328 GTS with ABS. It was not meant to be delivered here but it accidentally on purpose turned up! So your pool of prospective vehicles to this specification is somewhat limited, if you'd like to source an Australian delivered example. The decision between a GTS and GTB is easy however, if you like a coupe, buy a coupe, if you like the wind in your hair, buy a GTS. If appreciation is a primary concern: DO NOT BUY ANY FERRARI FOR SALE IN AUSTRALIA.
I have a friend with a GTS and for a short time I owned a GTB. I thought the GTB was much nicer to drive. Aussie delivery is an issue usually, but in the case of the GTB obviously less of an issue because they weren't brought in. Luckily I sold mine to a guy who wanted a GTB and was English so didn't see a problem with it being a UK car. Other enquiries at the time didn't share the view and either rang by mistake wanting a GTS or were turned off when finding out it wasn't Aussie spec.
Have you driven both and if so, which one put the bigger smile on you face? If you're over 6 foot, the GTB offers more headroom than the GTS with the top on. Personally I believe the B is prettier to look at than the S, but as the owner of a GTS, I prefer the roof off on a nice day. Double down and buy both
He should buy this orphan with the ugly wheels (I'm sure the ABS had the convex wheels) Then we'd know where it is
thanks for your responses - any more comments by others would also be appreciated. If there is indeed only one with ABS delivered in Oz, then the one Lorbek just listed is it!
That looks like one hell of a car. Used 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS Red 5 Speed Manual Coupe - Lorbek Luxury Cars, Port Melbourne
The Oz delivered ABS equipped 328 GTS was black. Crashed at Eastern Creek (?) and rebuilt. Haven't seen it in years. The Lorbek car may be an import or may just have the ABS wheels, who knows.
Crashed (heavily) at Oran Park. The owner (his name was Baron) had removed the ABS relay, thinking he would do a better time. Arrived at end of main straight, probably 180kmh, with no brakes at all. Lucky it didn't kill him.
What's interesting about the compliance plate, it that it lists compliance as being for "GTB/GTS" so it seems that Maranello Imports could have imported a 328 GTB easily, but were too lazy to do so! The car at Lorbek's could have been fitted with ABS, being the later wheel style indicating the revised hubs and wishbones, but I do not see any evidence of it, no warning lamp on the dash for example. I didn't think they had ABS in the 88 model....did they? (even though it has the '89 wheels) Plate says 1/88. right?
