    Hi All,

I am interested in purchasing a Ferrari 308 GTB or GTS and was wondering if one of the readers is aware of a good example that might be available.

My preference is for an early (carburetor) model but I am also interested in a late (quattrovalvole) model

I am keen to drive and cherish this car for many years, so I welcome your advice about which cars might have been well looked after in the past and which specialists might be able to help me in the future.

PM me if you have one for sale.

    Cheers
    David

Both carby and QV are good cars, buy the best example you can find of of either. GTSi is the only model to avoid.

Carby car has better throttle response and induction noise, QV has lots of detail improvements (like the extra radiator air vents in the bonnet) doesn't have flat spots or a sooty exhaust, plus the water pump bearings are stronger (but QV pumps fit on carby engines).

Everything else is a matter of personal taste, I prefer the earlier interior design.

Seems like only a few years ago $20K bought a good carby 308 in the US. Hang on, it was only a few years ago...

your photo reminds me how much better the carby interior looks, because the seats are just so much more elegant with a simple design and the contrasting panels on them.

No luck yet on finding my first Ferrari.

It seems that there are quite a few 2 valve variants that appear on various websites for sale and hand around for quite a white in the $65 - $80k range. I have looked at a few but nothing has tempted me to move away from my preference for a Carbi or QV variant.

I came close to securing an 84 QV. Whilst the mileage was low (72,000 km) it was missing its tools, flashlight, log-books and service history. It also had modern rims with low profile tires which was something I would have wanted to attend to. It's black interior was in good condition but I'd prefer tan.

The owner said there were some leaks and front end bushes that needed to be fixed, so after some discussions we agreed on a purchase price of $67,000. It was agreed that before I paid the full amount, the car would have a PPI at a Ferrari mechanic that was recommended on this chat forum. I intended to leave the car at the mechanics to get the defects fixed before collecting the car and driving back to Sydney.

So at this stage I was quite hopeful. However, a couple of days later the deal was off as the owner had decided to include the car as part payment for a business transaction. I was disappointed but the owner had mentioned the possibility of the car being withdrawn from sale if the business transaction firmed up.

    So my search continues

I have contacted a few Ferrari mechanics and asked them to keep an eye out for me. If you have any contacts you can suggest I'd be grateful.

PS I am going to a big swap meet this weekend so I will be keeping an eye out for original wheels for a 308. I noted that you were looking for a single rim at the moment - what specs are you looking for.
