I got thinking today, over the years I've had some unfortunate car incidents and started to wonder if it's just me or something else.. Every time I have a new car/ new second hand cat, within The first year of ownership it got vandalised.. 1. 2002 Audi A4: someone keyed it, hit side mirror and egged it 2. 2004 rav 4: ditto keyed twice and egged 3. 2008 Audi A4: someone scrap rear bumper and egged 4. 2014 RZ: someone thrown a bottle and hit the roof and someone scrapped the rear bumper 5. 1999 Wrx: someone punched a dent on the front quarter panel All whilst the car is parked on the road around Sydney... Hence I get so worried about leaving my Fcar without it being in sight. Am I paranoid? Anyone with similar experience ?
I think there was a recent thread like this here in the Aus section. I have been extremely fortunate that no one has ever damaged any of my cars. I have left the Ferrari out the front of my place over night many times over the last 10 years and never had a problem. I don't recall too much damage being done here, I think being a very small community everyone knows everyone and it wouldn't be hard to find out whom did what. Big city...............big problems.
I've never had any of my cars tampered with. Well, except my Datsun 180B which someone unsuccessfuly tried to get into with a screwdriver... But I'm just an average suburbanite. My friend who lives in the city had his M3 convertible repeatedly slashed / keyed etc. Are you a debt collector or similar? I suspect this kind of thing is a combination of location / type of car / owner / bad luck.
Ha! Not a debt collector Thou the neighbourhood is dodgy, close to beach, housing commission, long bay, la parouse... N crazy neighbour Hence High insurance premium..
What on earth are they doing letting housing-commission types anywhere near the beach? They should all be borderline in the outback. Surely?
FO!!! We don't want em!!! We have enough of the dole bludgers here now! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks mate. Rear wheels have never been touched, it has some serious toe-in and some negative camber on them also. Chews the inner edges of both rear tyres out in a 3000-4000 km's, but its all good. I have only put one set of rear cheap (Falken) tyres on it the 10 years I have owned it. Front's are still like new, 10 years old and around 10,000 km on them. Windows are 5%, tint fitted to the car before I bought it. Honest Officer......... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, a different experience I suppose, and maybe a more appreciative kind of crook here in the ACT. Had our house and the neighbours house turned over in what looked to be nothing more than a drug fuelled burglary some years ago. Once inside they found evidence of what might be in the garage…and so they took the keys I'd left on the tray inside the front door, and helped themselves. Took the Mondial I had then for a run up Mt Ainslie ……and left it at the top with nary a scratch on it. Two things helped. I left the keys - unwittingly - and they did not need to damage anything to get in, or drive it away. And it had a very low tank, fuel warning light was on after a long drive a few weekends before. So they realised they could not drive far, and refuelling would mean cameras…so they just left it. Made off with a truck load of other stuff from both of our places, but nothing truly irreplaceable - thank god the computer was properly backed up - and in the end I did not even lodge a claim for the car. I often wonder what the result would have been if I'd hidden the keys or if the tank was full. Doesn't bear thinking about. Oh, and just so you know, the garage is now alarmed and back to base, the car is locked and disabled, and yes, I do have a firearms license.
Hmmmmm..... You need to drive your car more. Re the tint, you're lucky you don't have the good "Adelaide officer of the year" up there in QLD, or you'd be in MTTTES. (More Trouble Than The Early Settlers).
One day mate, one day. The kids consume SOOOOOOOOOO much these days, it's hard to get outside just to mow the bloody lawn some days. I was hoping to go to Melb for the F1 again this year, but I should have put my holidays in 6 months ago as I left it too late and now the month of March is booked out and I miss out again. But definitely next year, will book around mid-late year so I don't miss out. That's a simple flight down and back. To bring the car on the GG one day will take a little more planning and a lot more money. Be a $2000 transport bill just to truck the car to Brisbane and back. Might just wait until I move to the Gold Coast to join ya's on the GG. Let's say.....................I don't know, GG 2030? I'll get the shirts made up. I know right, should just sell the POS! I have never been bothered about the tint. I have been pulled over a few times, but lucky for me the Cops are more interested in the car than the tint. I bought a Holden Crewman from the Gold Coast a few months ago and it also has 5% tint on it. That is a 2nd car for us and it does get driven at night. It's dangerous as it's very hard to see through the tint at night. Can only see the other cars headlights, can't see people. The 5% tint in that car though is awesome through the day as it keeps the cabin very cool in this 40c heat. It's that dark, I need to drive with the head lights on so I can see the speedo display to know what speed I am doing because the cab is too dark due to the 5% tint. The Ferrari has 5% and I have driven it at night a lot of times over the years also but I drive with the windows down to hear that beautiful Ferrari engine. When I have the time, will book it in to have the tint replaced on the Crewman to the usual 20%. And don't worry, we have had our share of Cops here over the years that give you a hard time about your car. 5% Crewman tint........ Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jesus that's dark! When you say 5% do you mean it lets only 5% of the light through? That would be highly illegal here. Don't ever sell the 348. That would be folly. It's a great car and the value can only go one way.
That tint is illegal, no way it's 5%, but don't worry, the cops don't have a camera that can detect illegal tint yet , the lazy ****ers
Yep! Don't worry, won't be selling the 348 for a while yet. And yes, it lets 5% of light through. I just bought a roll of 5% tint off Ebay to do my house windows. I was quoted $380 to $450 per window. I have 12 windows! Ebay tint cost me $140 for a 1mx30m roll. Will give it a go myself. A friend owns a sticker making shop here and said he will be able to cut the exact size rectangle shapes I need for my windows so that will make life easy. Another friend has tinted windows in his cars a few times before that looked great so I am going to get him around to show me exactly how to apply it. Have seen it done before and they make it look easy, but I am sure I will be able to get right after a few goes at it. Lucky I have plenty of windows to practice on. Yep! Highly illegal, yes. And it is definitely 5% on both cars. I was there when the 348 was tinted and the guy told me he put 5% on the Crewman himself a few years ago. The only way is up!! Oh, hang on..............
