To all the southern folk, stay safe girls and boys, make sure you've sandbagged your garage!
Starting to look a bit siri arse. Supposed to be going to Maroochydore tomorrow. I don't think so by the look of this. At least the car would get a good wash.
One person I know has the Hinze dam amount of water in various containers dotted throughout the house.
I can only go by the trees I see along the beach front as my place is tucked in, but these big pines (which are reasonably still now) were flapping about like ribbons last night. Plenty of rain as well and I'll check the beach later. Image Unavailable, Please Login

This was one of the biggest media beat ups I've ever seen. The cyclone did bugger all damage, the only houses that got destroyed were old ****ters that a dog wouldn't live in and then MY premiums go up to have these POS rebuilt to a standard they have never known. It's a total crock. It's about time there was a royal commission into these "disasters" where those people that live in known flood and cyclone zones with NO insurance get compensation after they have a cry on tv.
I agree with you about known flood zones but if you banned building in cyclone zones the whole coast of Qld would be uninhabitable! And some of those old houses on the Bluff in Yeppoon have been there for close to 100 years and withstood lots of storms. In the old days people just rebuilt them and got on with life. No need for an enquiry, just turn off the media beat up. I also wonder how many of the whiners are blow-ins from outside Qld who just don't understand weather. Qld has had very few cyclones in the past 20 years; when I was a kid they were an every summer event of some degree.
I pay a fortune to insure my properties in Townsville because of the last two cyclones in that area. Only issue I had was a fascia was torn off the side on one of my properties. A small job which I paid someone $250 to nail it straight back up there a week later. I average nearly $3K per year to insure each property. Wonder what they will cost me this year?
All insurance is a lottery weighted to the provider. If they're modern places with current-standard tie-down, have you considered self-insuring? Also have you checked how the rates shift according to how much excess you accept?
Hey !! I have NO license, I've got a Ferrari in the garage I'm NOT allowed to drive and I live with two people who couldn't drive a nail into wood !!! I've got a lot to whine about .... all first world problems admittedly but problems none the less On a brighter note I've finished the driveday for the rally and now just got to type it up and add the maps, but first my wife has to take me up to the shopping centre so this may be my last post
Oh wow, more rain, like that was unexpected in the tropics I better call channel 7 so the whole world knows we're getting the usual weather for this time of year Image Unavailable, Please Login
Exactly. So why on earth schedule something as important as World Cup cricket when there's a greater than 50% chance it'll be rained out? Meanwhile here it's a lovely 36 degrees and dry as a bone...
Never heard of self insuring and I select the highest excess available so my premium is lower. I am, yes. But would still much rather pay $1200 per property like it used to be before those two cyclones came along. I don't need anymore tax breaks, it makes no difference to me if it were $1200 or $3000 in that respect as I can make up the difference elsewhere at tax time. It is quite annoying, but obviously it's best to have it as I might actually need to use insurance for those properties one day.
