I took my mondial to enzo garage in the CBD. Can any one share their experiance with me about this garage. He has had the car 2 weeks for a belt change and so for he has told me that the car needs some tyres and has a leaking water pump. He will prob need the car for at least another 2 weeks!!! So far I am not getting a good vibe with this guy.
Gosh, all that in 4 weeks, if he can do it by then, sounds like a very competent mechanic! If it makes you feel better, I've just rebuilt the suspension and water pump on a 365 GT/4 and from placing the order for genuine parts to them being delivered was 13 months. The best way to resolve issues is simple communication from the mechanic. Are the parts genuine or not for example and are you experiencing scope creep, i.e. parts being required that were not in the original job? How much extra work has the mechanic found? Perhaps you can list what you took the car in for and the members here can give you some advice.
I've had a couple of small jobs done there and have no complaints at all. Good work done at a fair price. A mate of mine knows them well and has nothing but praise for them.
Belt change, oil and coolant change, gear box oil change. Hand brake adjustment (so it actually works) and window screen washer check.
Assuming the parts in stock then you'd be able to turn that over in a day and a bit. Are you worried about the time taken, or the scope creep? Maybe both?
Both. Also if I put pressure on him ie give him a deadline I am worried he will tell me to remove the car and there is no other independant mechanics here!
not true about no other independent mechanics in Adelaide - Mario of Veloce Motorsports at Hindmarsh is very good and very reasonable.
OK, well knowledge is power. Things have never been easier with the 'net. My advice would be to go through the service records of your car and see what's been done in the last two years. Some things such as brake fluid are annual requirements irrespective of mileage. The owners manual will give you an idea of what needs to be done. You can see on here what's involved and the time/parts component. Water pump leaks are easy to detect and worn tyres, you can see that yourself. There's also an age component with the tyres too, 7-8 years and that's it. Let's have a look at the belt change. Every two belt changes you should replace the tensioner bearings. Additionally on a Mondial 3.0 or 3.2 you'll have a valve adjustment every 25,000kms and in the service schedule there is a check head torque requirement too. (I've assumed you have a Mondial 8, Quattrovalvole or 3.2, not a "T") My advice would be to do a bit of research to see what's involved. Then communicate your issues to the mechanic. I do not know of the facility to which you refer but not wishing to defend them, I suspect they're just swamped. Additionally, there are a LOT of cars being recommissioned at the moment, all sorts of junk. This has three issues: 1. The spare parts supply that was very good just 5 years ago is stretched, especially if you use genuine parts. 2. Cars that would have been scrapped or parted out are being fixed/repaired/recommissioned. 3. There are no new service facilities opening meaning most independent facilities are very busy. Unfortunately it's a no win situation for many people.
Thanks I think I am experiancing newbie exotic car anxiety. Mario in hindmarsh has closed and is currently relocating. I will keep you up dated. There has been no service history on this car for 10 years!! And yes I suspect enzo garage is swamped judging by all the classics and f cars he has there. I don't want genuine parts I want reliable after market parts and will tell the mechanic when I see him on Monday. I wasn't after bagging the dude just voicing my newbie anxiety and thanks for helping me relax into this strange new world.
My suggestion is do not use non genuine parts. With the exception of components such as Bosch and Marelli which you can buy direct, my experience with non genuine parts has been horrific. This is particularly relevant to all gasket sets, water pumps and suspension bushes. If your car has no service history, you may as well wipe the slate clean and start from the 1,500km service coupon. I STRONGLY advise you have the head torque checked and the valve clearances checked as a priority.
Lol! Indeed. I want him to do my engine out next month so he better be there. Or, if not there, somewhere!
Went there today, it has a good vibe and the guys took time out to discuss things with me. They seem quite good and worth considering when it comes to service time.
Ok got the car back complete with ahuge bill (over the budget I told the mechanic). I don't think I will reccomded this garage now that I have checked out the one at hindmarsh. Pm me if you want a clear opinion lol. One interesting thing is that he offered $500 for my original mondail wheels. Well considering the few that are available on ebay are nearly $500 each, I took umbrige. On a positive note, the mondial rocks.
Hi All, Looking for a good mechanic for my F355 in Adelaide. Any updates on the mechanics / workshops listed above for 2023? Thanks!
Daniele is a genius and a gentleman and Rick is excellent as well. It's a hard to beat team. At the dealer. Veloce are great too.
I had two done while I had the car. The first one was around $6-7k and the other in about 2019 was $8-9k (but that included some other stuff I wanted done).
Thanks Steve. Appreciate it. Yeah I emailed both places overnight and Veloce said $6k (maybe more depending on what else needed doing) and Ferrari Adelaide said $7,900 incl. GST plus $435 for air-con re-gassing.
Carl, I don't know about Veloce (yet), but Ferrari Adelaide said: "This major repair will include the engine removed and replace the timing belts and tensioners Also carry out the camshaft seal replacement along with gaskets We would also replace all the fluids and filters We would also inspect the water pump clutch and report the condition We would also replace the rear main seal while the engine is out and the gearbox removed AirCon re-gassing an extra $435"
If that includes parts, I assume it does, all that work from the dealer is very reasonable. I would do the water pump and belt if there is no history of it being recently replaced. It's another engine out if it fails. For the A/C regas, make sure the entire system is vacuumed down, god knows what's in there after all these years. And I would do the receiver/dryer too.
WTF?? $435 for A/C regassing? Bollocks to that. Go to an Auto Elec or some other ac specialist. It should be less than half that. The Receiver drier is easy to replace as well and cheap. The rest, as Carl said, is a good price from the dealer. Just do the water pump while they’re at it. It’s not worth the risk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
