The R.A.C.V. and the V.A.C.C. joined forces and organised a motoring festival at the Melbourne Showgrounds last weekend. I understand the motivation was the demise of the traditional motor show that used to be held at the Exhibition Centre.

Australian Motoring Festival | The motor show that moves

There was a host of new models on display, including a stand alone tent for Ferrari which was packed. The merchandise was simply rolling out the door. not to mention a children's toy car circuit.

Some manufacturers such as Volvo and Mercedes Benz set up a small track outside where one could try their new models around some witches hats.

Of particular interest to me was a whole hall devoted to classics. Nothing super special but it's always good to see such vehicles out and about.

There was a motoring Auction on the Sunday afternoon followed by a large collection of motoring memorabilia, particularly interesting was an extensive collection of Michelin material.

I really enjoyed the show, however I could only attend on the Sunday afternoon, surely this would have been the busiest time, but it was in fact very easy to get around.

    Anyone else take a look?

In the Auction was an E48 Charger, it was bought by a long standing FCA member.

Always good to see a 288GTO.

Was it Fox's car, or are there others in the country I'm not aware of?

Strange there was no Enzo in the lineup though.

    Do you mean E38 or E49 ?

I had one of the last E49s to come off the production line, no stickers, just the 6 pack badge with the golf club gearshift knob 4 speed , quick car

What did it go for Carl ?

    Hi John
The E38 went for $87,840 including BP. Was original and rough as guts. Trashed interior, body littered with rust. It looked like a barn find. Still an important part of Australian motoring history though...

Great pics Carl, thanks. I had a look around on the Saturday, quite impressed. The RACV hall devoted to classics was my favorite. Hope they got enough numbers over the 4 days to make it a regular fixture. I'll post some of my pics soon..

Any idea whether they plan to restore or preserve it?
