Hi all, I am looking for 308 GTB or GTS ....not concerned if it carb or injected. Right hand drive preferable..I am in Sydney. Feel free to email me at [email protected] thanks!
There are a few of us looking for a 308 ATM One of the dealers that I was chatting to a few months ago told me that every 308 he can get his hands on is already sold to a waiting list of buyers that he has in the UK He said hat several years ago he was doing a brisk trade shipping 360s into Australia from the UK but now he is shipping a diverse range of Ferrari's out to the UK
sad isn't it? pity that no one in aus is willing to pay what it takes to keep these cars here. There's very little chance that they'll ever return.
Which is probably what owners in the UK were saying five years ago when mountains of cars were heading in the other direction. It'll probably change again (market and currency) and at least some will come back.
I seriously doubt it. There would have to be a massive currency swing as well a large drop in values to overcome the taxes payable on the way back in
So what are the chances of the Grexit causing the Euro to collapse and putting an end to the exodus of Australia's Ferrari heritage ?
True, but some WILL come back if the number of good cars here dries up (as they likely will). If all the good cars go OS, leaving only the dross, what else is a buyer who is looking for a really nice 308 going to do in a few years' time?
Zero, the cars leaving are not going to mainland Europe, they are going to the RHD markets of UK or Asia, and neither use the Euro. The value of the AUD is heavily influenced by our export trade and if China's economy tanks then the AU dollar will drop further and the pace of the exodus may well increase. M
In that case, you might as well buy a car here, drive it around for a while then send it OS and get back at least as much as you paid in the first place. Surely an unsustainable and ridiculous situation?
Sure, if you can find a suitable model for sale here where the price is lower locally than the ROW. Getting harder to do as you ( the buyer ) are competing with a heap of other buyers, some with the same plan in mind. I'm not sure I understand what your point is. M
I don't have a point. Is that a requirement to post something here? I just figured cars have been flowing in both directions forever, and "experts" have been making claims which have turned out be rubbish for about the same amount of time. If that equals a point, then that's it.
The obvious one being that none of the garden variety Ferraris (ie. the V8s) will ever increase in value. Experts were saying that here repeatedly a few years ago. 308s are now the perfect example of that claim turning out to be rubbish.
For the OP, probably one of the last carb GTS, Au delivery car will be available shortly when the owner isn't totally preoccupied with divorce. He's unreachable by any electronic means it seems, probably living in a clothing bin somewhere south over the bridge! If you want, his cousin might be able to track him down, Sam 0418 476 371.
