My 360 needs a new set of tyres later this month after its service, so I asked for a price from the 2 places that I had quotes on servicing it, they each came back with between $2600-$2800.
I rang my local Bob Jane dealer who had been great to deal with on my wife's Cayenne,
The prices I got back were
$590 each fitted for the rear
$320 each fitted for the front, do it while I wait.
    $1820.00 total.
Might as well say $200 per tyre cheaper overall.
Just shows it pays to ring around,

    Good to hear mate.

    Which Pirelli tyres are they?

I got a quote locally for some P-Zeros around 7 years ago for my 348 and they were $600 per tyre. :(

Never got them of course, $2400 for performance tyres to just baby my car around the streets here was going to be a huge waste of money.

So I bought $500 worth of cheap **** Falkens for the rear instead.

Just make sure it's the correct tyre, the 360 has a specific Ferrari approved tyre, you can tell by the small "f" on the sidewall. Most shops won't know the difference, so make sure you are comparing like for like.

Plus how old is the DOT? Bobjane usually gets older tyres so they can get them cheaper, from my experience.

What's the best way to avoid this problem?

I'm going to replace my tyres in a couple of months - even though there's plenty of tread left -because they will be six years old.

How do I ensure the tyres I buy aren't already a year or two old?

Carl posted up a numbering scheme some time back which tells you when the tyres were manufactured, the numbers are on the tyre wall

Yes I saw that. It was very helpful, and that forms the basis of why I am going to change out my tyres soon even though there is plenty of tread left.

The question is how do I ensure that the "new" tyres I put on aren't already fairly old?

You request a current year DOT when you order them. If they can't accommodate you, find someone who can.

The DOT shows the last two digits of the manufacturing year and the week, so 3015 means 30th week in 2015. They are in sideways oval usually preceeded by DOT.

Is it worth looking online somewhere like tyresales?

ie. The tyres will probably be cheaper but maybe because they're old stock?

Does the shop which fits them need to be familiar with these cars or is any tyre place likely to be ok?

I ask because I heard that the 355 wheels are particularly susceptible to damage if not handled correctly.

And I thought Pirelli was confusing with three different Diablo road tyres for motorcycles (and five others for racing).

They are the P Zero Rosso, what is the difference with the P Zero with the F on the sidewall?

The "f" fronts used to have an extra rayon band in the sidewall over the standard P-Zero, also, the load rating was lower for the bespoke 215 section front, I'm doing this all from memory, you need to do your homework. Perhaps best to call the Pirelli technical department to confirm.

I rang my local JAX store this morning, and he went through the differences, but then he said that the 215/45 front wasn't available it only came in a 225/40 and the rear would have to go to a 285/35, they were around $1640 fitted but after reading Carls post I think a bit more investigation is needed.
He also mentioned the Michelin Supersport, which sound ok as well.
So sounds like I'm in for a tyre lesson over the week or so.
