OK another plagiarised thread idea, but I thought it worth while, What did you do to your Ferrari today, recently. I'll start, I am in the process of de-stickying my 456M I bought two 345 mils bottles of ISOCOL from the Chemists warehouse disposable gloves an cotton buds. actually does work rather well. Interesting the internal door open handles, one came clean Black the other grey.. go figure.
At this point I am opting not to paint anything except the LH internal door handle and then with a Saturn finish paint .The main reason is who knows one day their might be a reliable soft touch paint available.
As I understand it that would be the Holy Grail of solutions to the sticky interior problem. (ie. Re-creating the original look and feel but without it going horrible again after a few years). I know several people are working on it but I didn't know there was already an answer. Do tell.
I patted mine on the nose. The poor thing hasn't been driven for weeks while I save up for some Tubi headers. While that happens (and I'm going to do one or two other things at the same time), if anyone has a driver's side OEM header for a 5.2 in good nick that they'd let go cheaply please let me know!!
Yes there already is a soft touch OEM like finish. You can get it here:tautflex I just did an F355 with it and it came up amazing and has the OEM look and feel.
1 month ago, my friend did his stradale 1 year ago and its still great. I did my own car 7 months ago but with another finish not OEM soft touch didn't know about Tautflex back then. If you scratch a painted panel it will need refinishing anyway. The soft touch paint is something alot of people miss when they restore the buttons and switchgear. If its done right the Tautflex looks OEM.
Thanks for sharing. Which colour, type and size should I order to repaint black switch gear? Looks likr the Tautflex DIY satin would be correct.
My friend is a former mechanic (worked on Ferrari) and he said they use it on Mercs and its at the moment a secret of the trade. Now I have used it, I highly recommend. Would be excellent applied via airbrush. I used the supplied brush on a single part and it self levels which is great. Here is a before and after of a 355 radio surround. I used plastidip and found it quite good. It would have been even better if i'd done proper preparation, but I digress.
Thanks for sharing. So the first step is to wash the sticky off with ISOCOL and then use tautflex. Is there a guide for this somewhere, I've got a touch of sticky on the steering column
No problem. I found Paul's thread helpful when doing my sticky bits. I too used Tamiya semi gloss black, it's a perfect colour. The taut flex is factory correct in colour and feel though. So change the steps where you see fit to substitute acrylic paint for the taut flex. I'll buy some next week Elliott and airbrush a couple of bits to see how the come out. Will probably refinish all my bits again now with this, be good to get that soft touch feel again. Still looking at laser engraving options so we dont have to use decals. Will get there eventually.
Well I didn't do it,but was told by Marc today, that:The heads are back, the engine's out on a stand, all the bits have arrived and he's gunna get into it.
