Hope it's not too much to ask if everyone can chip in and give all some tips for preparing for a concourse. I'm Just keen to know and may try bits if they are not too hard. Thanks in advance. 😊
First thing is to work out how exactly original your car is. Then you need to work out if it goes into standard or modified section.
How much time do you have to devote to preparation? What do you have and generally what condition is it in?
Just do a prep like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvAfrEyilJU Would pay to have someone look over your car to determine if there are any non original easy fixes like tyre valves, aftermarket stick on shields etc. Get it original as possible and present it well. 360 is fairly easy to prepare as they are still relatively new.
if your going for a top level concouse car. Step 1 Do an immense amount of homework on "everything" that include clamps, belts hoses. Step 2 pull it to pieces and restore it buy this time you will have lost interest and sell it. Sorry for being cynical but concourses area subjective thing and each club uses different rules. and Major events generally use the rule did it leave the factory like that? If show and shine get a professional retailer to correct the paint as very few people know how to was a car, sorry I don't mean to offend any one. When its finished you probably wont want to drive it. The general rule of thumb for a excellent condition car is about a month of work each wheel arch will take about 2 days. Paint correction can take at least a solid couple of days. OH and a hoist is handy.
I think the event is in sept. My car is reasonable. I have cleaned most just need to debate about the extra effort..

Only none original are the nitto rear tyres. I have the original set separately.. As I don't want to use them. They are too hard to replace
Wait until your car gets judged, then you will know what is original or not (if the person judging is a 360 specialist). Make sure you get your sheet after the event and work on the areas they list as below perfect ...... and make sure you take a BIG towel as you will be crying after all the $$$$$$ effort you put in and then miss out on a $50 trophy ..... it's a soul destroying event but keeps the marque in better order
Ask KIAI or Carl They are FCA National Concorso judges BTW - concourse a large open area inside or in front of a public building.
As others have said, Concours are an originality and cleanliness preparation and judgement. If your car is original and prepared with effort, you will do well. You may even enjoy it. i have a Porsche that has won its class at the Porsche Club Queensland Concours ten years in a row. Horse's Ferrari 308 QV has an equally good record, most likely better. Of course, Horse is a good polisher. I'm not sure whether or not those two marques are judged too differently or not. An important point to remember, is that points are deducted, not added. In our Porsche club, you start with a perfect score, say 10 for a wheel and points are deducted for chips, scrapes etc. Then repeat the same process for paint, interior, boot, tools etc etc. The car with the highest score (least points deducted) at the end of the process wins its class, then there is a double check to determine the overall winner on the day. Check with KIAI or Carl as they will know the process that Ferrari follows. I enjoy Concours, however it can be a lot of work. I know of guys whom spend many many weekends and nights preparing a car. I can do mine in a couple of days. A good eye for details is essential to do well. My OCD helps me do well.
Bribery doesn't work ......... well not all the time Our previous national treasurer throw his wallet on the ground when I judged his car many years ago, suggesting I should take a few notes out to help me see his car was the best I don't remember if he won but he didn't have any 100s in his wallet !!!!
The NSW state concorso isn't usually organised until a few weeks beforehand. So, no eye-dear for the moment, although I imagine Frank C will be doing your class again. There is nothing he doesn't know about 360's and he is tough, tough, tough. But a Platinum award from him means something, unlike most state events, where the judging standards are all over the place. Carl, Frank and I will be helping at the national event in Perth (when we're not in the hot tub with Mr Millard )
