Has anybody bought tyres from Tire Rack in the US? are there any issues with DOT numbers or compounds?
Used them a few years ago, no issues whatsover, but it's always prudent to ask them to verify the DOT numbers so you know the tires are fresh. I had heard whispers that "US" spec tires did not have the correct markings for Australia, I did some research and discovered that the Goodyear's I bought where a uncommon size and hence the global production came from the one mold in Germany so the tire was the same regardless of where it was sold. Also I believe they have been prevented from shipping certain brands to Australia. M
Playing Devils Advocate, would the insurance companys try to get out of paying if they could see the tires were not from Australia ?
Realise that but when you import them you have to change windscreens, tires, aircon etc for these anal P@icks here in Australia even though the same cars are imported from the factory when new. Soooo if you have ever dealt with an insurance company when you think things are in your favour they will look at any way to try and get out of paying. ;-) We live in a Nanny state remember.
I bought some tires for my Lotus Esprit from there, but that was when the exchange rate was better. However, they insisted on sending the tyres by Fedex (or something similar), which, I recall, tripled the cost of the purchase.
Bought tyres back in 2013, had no issues and quick delivery. No idea what the process is now these days.
Sounds like a mixed bag of opinnions. I will have to research the dot numbers. The PZero Rosso tyres I need are not available locally.
I'm very happy with Michelin PS2's on my car, Greg has them as well. Note, there is a specific spec for the 575.
If you change between the Pirelli and the Michelin on the 575 you need to make the selection using the scan tool . Also run different tyre pressures.
I just looked this up in the workshop manual, see pics. Could not find info regarding having to change the tyre selection with the scan tool Image Unavailable, Please Login
HI Greg from memory there is also something on the tyre pressure sticker inside the door re the different tyre pressures for the Michelin and pirelli. Are you near your car?
Here is a pic of mine, lists Pirelli only. The pic from the previous post is from the Factory workshop manual so 2.0 is what they specify for Michelin Image Unavailable, Please Login
Once apron a time to import car parts, the courier would charge the custom fee for the whole order, now you get charged a customs fee for each item and in this case, each tyre. That help?
Try Sam at Tempe Tires. If he doesn't have them he will know where to get them and he is very reasonable as well. I bought my 550 P Zeros from him.
