    I know lots of people were hoping for 2017 to be better than 2016 and after a great start in Sydney for the western new year, it all turned to pooh for me with a friend diagnosed with serious lung cancer (as distinct from the non-serious type) and then my mum passed away on Mon morning... so hoping for a reset for the Lunar New Year tomorrow... gung hei faat choi everyone.

    I had a close call with my 87 year old Dad last year. Even though logically you know it's going to happen eventually, I was really rattled. Can't imagine how awful it must feel when it actually happens.

    Yeah mate, my Mum is 59 this year and my Dad 82.

    They both are in poor health, especially my Mother and I don't expect them to be around much longer.

    Not looking forward to the inevitable. :(

    Same here Pap. Dad is 71 and fighting for his life with stage 4 cancer.

    I had a 5 year lead up to losing my dad late last year (cancer), it still came as a shock and rocks you more than you expect.

    thanks for the kind words guys... mum was 84 and passed away painlessly in her sleep, so about as good as it gets. Sent her off today inside a papier-mâché turtle launched from an IRB courtesy of Mermaid Beach surf patrol (she used to live on the Goldie) into a perfect clear blue sea with sun overhead, then my sister and I bailed from the boat and swam back to the beach which was strewn with white rose petals by all the the other family members waiting on the beach .Pretty good send off IMHO...

    My wife's 92 year old mum passed away last month - we gathered white rose petals from the 350 Elina roses on our front garden and scattered them around - no sea shore but lots of brown dirt - that looked great with the stark white rose petals.

    That sounds like the farewell your Mother would have wanted Karen.

    Thank you so much, she is young and according to all the specialists we talk to she is just one of the unlucky ones to have the health problems that she has.
