For those of you Aussies Downunder, here is a link to a rare car... [ame]www.youtube.com/watch?v=trH-rBQ02Do[/ame] I bought it in Melbourne and we have taken it to Europe and then to the USA where we now live. Not many people know about Montreal's, and I am trying to spread the word! Have a listen to a small Italian V8, I hope that you guy's will enjoy it... Awesome car Karl.....My Dad had a green one for many years. The V8 is dry sump basically modelled off the racing Tipo 33 engine. Nice colour combo.
Here is the story of the one I found up here. 2 of the blokes who did the GG bought it. It is now getting the body and paint sorted in Brissy. The mechanics are sorted and it's drivable. Not sure what the state of play re the interior, which wasn't tooo bad. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142665166-post5032.html
My Dad also had a green one. Which was painted Rosso OfCorso. Not that car, though. Unfortunately our old car is not in a good place.
Karl, your car is a beautiful example! Simon, was the car metallic orange or the solid orange? An orange one has been spotted around Brisbane lately. I only know of two Red and the Green one that get driven regularly. Jon, was your old car wrecked? I have a pair of doors off a green car I got of Richard from Avanti.... If anyone knows of spare parts lying around please let me know. I have a doozy of a project car that is currently getting metalwork
No it's in one piece, just not in a very good spot. I think we sold all our spares to Richard, but I'll check with my brother.
Thanks Jon. Graeme, agreed that the car didn't quite hit the mark but still iconic. I know of a few that have been very well sorted with the advantage of technological improvements over the last 40+ years.
Was only suspension really, the rest of the car was great. I drove Richard from Avanti Spares' well sorted Rally car that he used in Classic Adelaide and it was fabulous.
And that's would make a big difference, a good friend had one, ALFAHOLICS suspension, electric power steering, and Haltec injection, much improved.
friend drove me to my wedding in Hong Kong in 1994 in his Alfa Montreal but all the photos were in a camera left in a taxi later that night! Unfortunately the car was also lost a few years later when fire spread from a neighboring shed and destroyed quite a few cars
I had a white aussie delivered car about 11 years ago. Very original. The ZF gearbox was sublime (when it had a little warmth). Short shift and clicky. The suspension was hopeless. Direct from 105 coupe but could be easily sorted to not wallow. The engine, was ok. Revved nicely but it felt underpowered IMO. Don't play with the SPICA mechanical injection. The car needed a little investment once developed and it would have been awesome. A good friend now owns the car and has two!
I forgot to mention that this is a RHD car. From what I have seen, it's the only RHD here in the USA. Numbers vary, but to the best of my knowledge, there were only 104 RHD built. Out of that, about 70 were brought to Australia. So they are very rare cars. The RHD cars are quite a bit different in the Engine Compartment and Brake Boosters, and other parts were sourced in Oz (PBR. Repco, etc.). Evan Green did a road test on one many years ago...
Dad picked his up in the early 90s. It was lying under a cover at a smash repair shop in Darling street Leichardt. I think from memory it only had around 30000 km on the clock. Great looking car from the front. It took him around 3 years to get the car.
The Montreal V8 sounds fantastic. Pure burbling V8 sound but a pitch or two higher which makes it so much more interesting. When I was in my teens there was a 1981 GTV 116 with a Montreal engine tearing up the streets. It was built from the ground up with 3-litre pistons & liners from Autodelta. Will never forget that sound
I tried to find a clip of the gold one that did Targa Tas quite a few times,it sounds totally different to the red one here. It may well have had some exhaust work done to it. It did TT in '92 and '93 and was then swapped for a Porker 928 for '94.
Was that one of the factory Autodelta GTV8's? Or what it done later in its life? A friend is building one at the moment.
C'mon guy's! Where do you think I come from? Definitely not a "septic tank" which is even more appropriate now... Heck, we even celebrated Australia Day here, went to the Outback Steakhouse... ha!
