Who did this, and where is it now. What Chassis number and most importantly.... WHY?????? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Damn that looks stunning!! I've never seen a Targa before, but do have pics of this 512BBi Spider - this wasn't an official model was it? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
looks like a Californian plate on the back Phil and you know their penchant for soft tops. Remember the Daytona someone converted to a sort of stationwagon ? It had two large glass swing up doors on the side, sort of looked more like a hearse....and a 512BB GTS looks better than the Breadvans
That's a BB512 Targa conversion from Straman. It's the car in the brochure, not sure how many they actually produced. Check out the length of those exhaust tips. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
My 365bb was converted to targa form when it was owned by Ben Lexcen(sorry I don't have any pics of it back then and don't know who did it but assume it was someone local). The owner prior to me then changed it back to a coupe.
when they did this conversion did they have to add any more bracing to compensate for the lose of roof rigidity ? or did they put it back because of this ?
It doesn't look as though they put in any bracing etc. The previous owner didn't like the look of it and felt the targa top was too flimsy and pretty much useless
thanks, it was just that when you said Ben Lexcen had it converted , and with his engineering background, you'd have thought he would insist on strengthening the chassis
Who knows? but I can't see any with my untrained eye. I'd be interested if anyone knows anymore about this car
which car is yours greg... pm chassis number if you prefer. BB's had some amazing things done to them... when late 80's prices made them crazy money! My own 512BB exchanged hands for over 200K pounds, and I just received a "new to OZ" BBi this week, that has a wacky "Bespoke" interior and 288 GTO badges in the guards.
Like a BB doesn't flex enough! I can remember times I couldn't open the door when I was parked across a driveway!! OHOS..and then they cut the roof out??? geez.
Ahh yes R. Straman conversions. I have those exact brochures. Lorenz and Rankl did very much the same to various Ferraris. Nice work it was too. Still have some brochures from them aswell somewhere.
It's strange. When the cars a fairly new, everyone wants to hot them up/change them into targa./convertible roof's etc. etc. What's wrong with a 512BB just the way it's meant to be ?
Why did you take so long to post mate?? 4 years to post this?? And your name looks strikingly familiar. Ferrarifixer starts this thread and Ferrarifxr brings it back 3 years later.
