The 777 is pretty insane in size when seen at an airport.... I've seen a bunch
of them and I'm just in awe every time. I still have a fondness for the 747
myself (have a poster of a 747-200 cockpit with "old school" avionics on my wall... )

I've seen one in person at the SAC Museum in Omaha........back in it's heyday, and even now, it is still one of the most beautiful designs of all time, and one of the most incredibly amazing high performance aircraft ever deigned with a mere pencil and a slide ruler.

Is that a person standing on the other side of the wing just in front of the USAF?

    F-5
Why cool? - Even today, this little Viet-Nam era plane is used to train pilots in modern fighter jets simulating most modern MiG and Sukhoi aircraft, yet it's role was an attack aircraft in 'Nam. During all out air-to-air testing of the F-15A, two F-5's out-gunned the F-15 in maneuverability. Very slick little fighter!

    F-18 Super Hornet
Why cool? - Everything the previous Bug did well, the Super Bug does better. This plane does just about everything right, in all weather. Test pilots tried numerous times to shake it into uncontrollable spins, but it consistently spins itself into a nose dive making recoveries ridiculously easy by fighter standards. This would be my all time choice to tule around the skies. Even the wings have a nifty feature, they fold-in for tight fly-in neighborhoods like Spruce Creek :D

For me, it's the Griffin Lionheart.

A Kitplane offered between '98 and '04 there were probably a dozen or so built (which is not unusual for a 6 seat, radial engine powered kitplane).

What I love about the Lionheart is that it's a modern Staggerwing. It's a sexy take on an old classic, and it takes my breath away. I want one.

EDIT: The FAA has 6 registered on the books, and Transport Canada has none :(

B-1 Lancer. Saw one of these at my first air show at about 10 years old, and I still consider it to be one of the most stunning planes ever built.

Nope......looks like either some taxiway light or a person standing on the ground in the distance.

I like the F-5 as well.....we have one of the ex-Canadian Air Force ones mounted on a pylon close to my house....

Nice! Have not seen one of those before. What purpose does the staggered wing configuration serve, other than aesthetics? What are its aerodynamic pros and cons?

When I first saw this thread, L-1011 was the first thing I thought of.

Did you work for Eastern? My mother worked for them at the Reservation Center here in Charlotte. When I was a kid, a couple of friends (whose mother also worked for Eastern) used to fly CLT-ATL-SFO for the day, and catch the redeye back - for the $20 FC standby fee. I always tried to get L-1011's from ATL-SFO. Was always bummed when the only choice was A-300.

I am with you on that one. I use to make scale ones when I was a young kid. Crazy that the plane was in production for so many years before it was officially released to the public. Wonder what they got flying around these days.
