Hopefully this thread won't have legs but I thought it might be good to document reported problems with this cutting-edge aircraft. There were 57 in service as of 5/31.

(This is purely informational. Not boeing bashing and obviously every new aircraft has a certain amount of "teething" problems.)

those are supplier related / maintainance issues... one brake and two engine related... not assoicated with airframe design / manufacturer, and could apply to anyone using that vendor... to help take a little heat off Boeing and their design

These are all fairly minor, expecially for a new plane. And even more, considering the new tech (no bleed air, etc.).

There was a poster earlier (on the battery thread) when they were solving the battery issue, that said the 787 would never fly commercially.

    That's not the case.

I would not call this a problem to the 787 as ovens smoking are common on all A/C equipped with them. All it takes is a meal getting tossed on the elements nothing uncommon in the family house kitchen.

According to Bloomberg the oven overheated, so not necessarily caused by food spillage. We'll know soon enough and hopefully not another electrical glitch.

Qatar Airways grounds one 787, cites 'minor' issue

DUBAI (Reuters) - Qatar Airways said on Friday it had taken one of its 787 Dreamliners out of service following what it described as a "minor" technical issue, as pressure mounted on Boeing over possible new electrical problems with the advanced jet.

The airline and Boeing , the airplane's manufacturer, declined to give further details but industry sources said they were treating seriously reports that the aircraft had been grounded for days after smoke was seen near an electrical panel.

I know, just trying to make a point that on most machines, if they are going to break they will do it when new. Never buy a first year production car and all that.

Things can't be all that bad, chief engineer gets promoted to VP of Product Development and the deputy chief project engineer gets put in charge of the 777X. Meanwhile the typical engineer at Boeing continues to spend an ever increasing amount of their day in mtgs.

The problem is not external to the ELT it is internal. Boeing issued a bulletin to have 1200 ELT's inspected in the next 10 days. This issues goes well beyond the 787.

Boeing calls for inspections of ELTs on up to 1,200 aircraft

Note that the ELT's are not made by Boeing... they are Honeywell.

And as he says, the wiring issue is not a Boeing issue... it is internal to the ELT.

The number of manufactures that have ELT's that are certified for use world wide is small since Boeing, Airbus are the 2 big hitters in this industry and they both use them in there product. They are not responsible for Mfg issues made by the supplier of the ELT. As long as the product is installed per Honeywell in this case they cannot be held accountable for the issue.

The unfortunate fact is that one of Honeywell's ELT decided to spontaneous combust in a 787. The good thing is it happened on the ground and not at FL360 over the Pacific.

A Lot Polish 787 recently received a new engine at O'Hare. Odd for a new plane?
