The undisputed origami champion of the manilla folder bracket.

The hours to build that working thrust reverse engine seems insane. If he is compensated by selling his artwork piece, then it was well worth it.

If nothing else, this is a great resume piece for him if he is in the CAD or model making business.

I've used manila folders to make mockups for many years but never anything near this complicated.

I don't know who this guy is but he knows the 777 from inside out. He has to be Boeing because this model shows very intimate knowledge or an incredible sense of detail. I worked on that airplane from the beginning and I know it stem to stern...nose dome to tail cone. Marvelous stuff.

    Updated video posted a couple weeks back: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7R2ldqDxnA]PAINT SHOP // Painting Time-lapse // Air India Model 777-300ER - YouTube[/ame]

He "paints" it in Air India colors. By paint I mean gloss/clear the livery on so you can't actually see it unless light reflects off of it at a certain angle. Lots of masking work done to achieve that, but he says he didn't want to lose the manila color to show the substrate.

At least we get to see the entire 1:60 fuselage. Nice scaling.

Unreal patience and attention to detail. I am blown away - especially seeing that he is cutting it all by hand. Since he creates those 2d files he could be using a plotter to save himself immense amounts of time.

Apparently not! The story I saw was he was 'inspired' by a model he saw in college architecture class (not sure if he was in the class), started, became, let's say 'obsessed', dropped out of school and has spent the past 5 years working on it!

I guess he's got some wealthy parents or something!

Is it possible Boeing would give him the required blueprints? Exactly how he gets it all 'right' hasn't been explained as yet.....

    Cheers,
    Ian

I still wonder where he got the loft lines, structural centerlines , mechanical linkage details, and interior configuration data. He has some very accurate information on the airplane that you can't get from looking at models or photos. One of my last jobs at Boeing was preparing the excressences, centerlines, and config drawings on the 777-300 . I had a hand in a bit of the lofting of the airplane and this guy has some very intimate info.

Indeed! Is it possible Boeing gave him the relevant blueprints at some point?

(OK, I know they're not 'blueprints' these days, rather CAD files I guess, but I think I read he lives in NYC somewhere, so not a Boeing guy?)

    Cheers,
    Ian
