We do our vehicle dynamics research on an old air field where we share a hangar/garage with the resident flight club. Two years ago they built this awesome Horten IV recreation which I thought you guys might enjoy (bad cellphone camera, forgive me!). I've never seen it in the air, but they regularly fly it apparently... I'd be scared to death being trapped in that thing stationary on the ground, I can't imagine flying it

IIRC, the Horton also provided data for the Me-163, another tail-less flying wing that landed on skids.

I think that you are correct, Taz. Horton also had a bomber version of this in the works and his developments were in step with Jack Northrop...or both were on the same path. I flew with a guy who also flew a tailless design here in Seattle area that was designed by Witold Kasper and it flew beautifully. If the designer knows his aerodynamics, he can design a very flyable machine. it's all in the twist...of the wing.

I think this was another design from Horton maybe someone else knows for sure.

Not too stealthy with bare aluminum skin and those radar reflector intakes.

It didn't have aluminium skin though

"wings were made from two thin, carbon-impregnated plywood panels glued together with a charcoal and sawdust mixture. "

"After the war, Reimar Horten said he mixed charcoal dust in with the wood glue to absorb electromagnetic waves (radar), which he believed could shield the aircraft from detection by British early warning ground-based radar that operated at 20 to 30 MHz (top end of the HF band), known as Chain Home"

I was there last April/May and the wings off to the side haven't moved at all.
