Also the last entry in the Flightaware tracking log shows them at 468 kts and 35,000 feet - not much terrain up there.

I seriously hope this ends up being some weird electronic issue.

Edit: just realized it should've landed like 3 hours ago. :(

Not sure how credible it is.

My father, who was serving in the Malaysian Air Force for over 20 years said he's really baffled why there's no Mayday call, should there be an emergency, crash, etc. At 35,000 feet, it would take a couple of minutes, should the plane crash.

However, what's weird, it's just like it's vanished, no contact, no radar detection...

I don't want to start rumours, but one of the only possible explanation, if there was a bomb on board. However, it can't be as there's no traces of debris, etc.

Everyone here is just down today, as it's the first time i believe it's happened to a MAS carrier.

    sorry Remy :(

if it was terrorism I think someone would have claimed responsibility by now, especially given it's apparent "success" (we're now 18 hours after the plane's last contact).

my suspicion is a massive structural failure, although it must have been really big for pilots to not have time to send a distress signal.

A side question. I've got boats and all of them have EPIRB's that put an immediate signal out if they hit the water. I'm a little surprised that the location of the plane is determined by a last radar contact at a high altitude and high speed. The next step is to look for debris. I'm not a pilot so I may be missing something.
It seems like there would be a beacon on board.
