280 is too low for real weather avoidance, whats its service ceiling?

The 850 is FL 310, can't find anything on the 900 SC. Did find a range graph at FL 310, but that's all.

    It's still FL310 for the 900.

I think the thought is that you have to go "around" weather as opposed to "topping" most weather in a TP.

Then you've never run into a squall line that extends top to bottom of the US with tops over 40K. They don't happen often, but they do happen.

So in your opinion, any plane that cruises below 40K is not usable?

I guess they don't happen often because haven't cancelled any flights. That said… I don't ever have to be anywhere either! HA!

36U -> KOPF in the morning! FL270. Time for some sun.

No of course not, I just believe that altitude capability equates to greater comfort and usability. Have fun in MIA!

For sure...great specs...actually lavs can be a pain in terms of cleaning, etc. And if you have one you cant ask a quest not to use it. As a single pilot you cant get up to use it anyway. They forgot to mention one small fact...the price. This is economical enough for me to use it as a fun personal transport. It is certainly more economical to run vs a Phenom 100 or Mustang or even the Honda Jet. The size of this jet is perfect for someone who doesnt need all the room of a pc-12.

Seriously???? To me, the only downside was the astronomical price! At $3.7m you can buy a lot of Jet-A and pay for engine programs on a used P100 or Mustang. I think Socata is going to have a hard time justifying the price of this aircraft new.

The socata is just as expensive to buy but much less expensive to operate.

Perhaps, but I think the same pilots/ small businesses that are looking at a new TBM will be looking at the VLJs.

True, though a new Mustang is half a million $ cheaper than a new TBM. The TBM is certainly cheaper to operate. I suspect that the difference is much more pronounced in parts of Europe and Canada that have a very high tax rate/ useage fees for fans.

The only reason t buy a VLJ is "sex appeal". They "look cool". They have no utility compared to the TBM 900 or even the PC12 and the price reflects so. I could have bought 2 or 3 VLJ's for what my PC12NG cost.

Cessna Mustangs and Phenom 100's don't hold value and there are a million for sale. Once again, you're comparing apples to oranges.

$3.7MM for this kind of utility is dirt cheap. Just as fast as a VLJ and hauls more twice as far. Forget about it!!!! TBM900 is awesome. TBM 900 is a VLJ killer and the only reason to buy a VLJ is because they're cheap. But that just means you'll get holding an airframe worth zero some day.

I don't know about the only reasons to buy a VLJ are for sex appeal and looking cool. Operating costs aside, 2 turbofans are a lot safer than 1 turboprop in the air. Operationally you may be able to avoid nasty weather, but when stuck in moderate to heavy icing we all know we'd rather have two fans than one prop. On the flip side good luck taking those two turbofans into a 3,000 foot dirt strip at your hunting/fishing ranch. They all have their place. Agreed, apples and oranges. The TBM 900 is a sweet bird.

Those stats show nothing of engine failure.

Nor do they mention anything of "Single Engine Turbo Prop".

And those stats are 8 years old. A lot has changed with GA in 8 years.
