USAF and AF Research Lab are hard at work on 6th generation power plants with variable bypass ratio and very high temperature turbine sections and 6th generation fighters to use those engines. Here are two illustrations and note that the Boeing F/A-XX has manned and unmanned versions flying as a team. The LM F-XX is somewhat similar to the YF-23, ironically.

Look great. Presumably the shape lends to stealth or has that capability been passed over given technological advances?

Unfortunately, unmanned is the future of air warfare. :(

The latest anti-stealth technology is low frequency radars, which are not as affected by LO designs created around tracking radar frequencies. In the past low frequency radars have received too crude information to use for tracking, but passed their information down to progressively higher frequency radars for more precise tracking. We will see in the future what can be done with the low frequency radars. LO designs will also try to become stealthier to low frequencies, in the continuous battle of ECM.

"Unmanned" is the future of everything. The problem is "humans".

Hard to out-turn something that can pull 25 'g's. Just a matter of time. AF is pumping out RPA pilots as fast as they can and you can fly a combat mission, launch Hellfires and drop and guide LGBs and still be home for dinner in Vegas.
