Last night Smithsonian channel had an interesting documentary on the history and development of the Boeing 747. Interviews with some of the principals involved and archival footage of the testing and flight of the prototype. There was an interesting portion on the Pratt+Whitney engine problem.

Saw that several weeks ago. Not sure that path to technological innovation would be allowed today as it seemed that Boeing was really flying by the seat of their pants back then trying to get the plane completed in time for the Paris air show.

I still marvel that planes this size can fly!
