Bad Water Landing - failed checklist item?

    I went looking for a video of a fixed gear plane landing on the water to see how quickly it would flip over.
    I found this video from 2009 instead.
    Hope it isn't a re-post.

    Looks like the guy forgot to retract the wheels on his floats before attempting a water landing.
    Yikes, that had to hurt when the front of those floats caught the water's surface.

    I assume it is a checklist item to verify the wheels are retracted before landing on water, true?

    A guy made a water landing in his new Seabee in my home town and didn't have the gear retracted . Bad ending.

    Yes, it is. My brother used to have a Cessna 206 on Amphib floats, and it had an audible alert which said something like "Gear is Up-- Water Landing" and "Gear is Down-- Runway Landing."
