This photo was taken yesterday from my 1979 Cessna 172 when almost home from a few days in Florida for the Kissimmee Mecum Auction, Cavallino, and a visit with a great friend in Tampa that included a fine dinner at Bern's Steakhouse. We had a bumpy flight home with a strong headwind, but the visibility was incredible. Notes: Don't use Kissimmee Jet Center FBO.

Looks like a newer 'Citabria' (and confirmed by the FAA Registration Database). Fun airplanes.

Beautiful shots! I can't imagine what it must be like to fly in the northwest. Your panel is immaculate. And yes, within the last week definitely counts!

I'm trying to figure out what snow covered hill that is...Adams? Doesn't look like Rainier and it's not Hood. Nice shots, though. Flying around in the NW is a treat, isn't it?

Could be wrong, but I think it is Hood, looking S-SW. Then in the far left of the photo in the distance is Jefferson.

edit, maybe I'll cover all my bases and say it is Bachelor, and the town is SunRiver. Been a while since I've been down there.

I didn't do too much flying on this flight, mostly manned the video cameras.

Picture taken within the past week. At work now, if I see anything interesting, I'll post a pic

Next trip on the books in the 5th of Feb. Might pick up a St. Marteen trip on the 10th.

    Yeah, Eagle.

The long periods of time off are one of the greatest benefits of flying jobs. I recently came off 27 days off. It's always a bit of a strange feeling on that first day back.

Mt. Shasta. It is always a treat, especially when the weather is nice, as it was last weekend (when you could avoid the fog, anyway).

Thanks! Airplane only has 210 hours total time (after I finished flying it from the LA area up to Portland).

    Not flying, but...

That looks like a fun runway! Did you land there? I have a friend at my local airport that goes there a lot, but I think he goes commercially.

Thanks for the identification. Glad Bob asked because I was wondering the same thing. Stunning.

Whoa, now that is a flying photo! Amazing. I have always wanted to ride (hadn't thought about flying) a balloon. Love them. My area has a lot of balloon festivals and I am always in awe of their beauty. I live on 70 acres and one time the wind was just right (for me) and all the ballooners landed in my yard! That was the coolest thing ever. Do you still fly balloons?

Looking at Google Earth and Maps I can see the turn-off for Susanville near the lower border of the picture , the junction of I-5 and 89. I have flown over that very spot several times but never saw Shasta and Shastina with that much snow on them. I wasn't flying that high, however ,maybe 100 feet over the road and gasping for altitude.

    My old home town!

That's the old Isla Grande airport, which was the main airport in the prop age but was replaced by Isla Verde (SJU), about 10 miles east, when the jet age happened.

Castillo San Felipe del Morro (El Morro) is visible at the left end of Old San Juan island.

Maybe one day before too long I will get to fly over that junction AND at 100 feet over the road, no less! Scary!

Julie,it wasn't that scary, just a lot of work to fly an old airplane that was under powered and a bit too heavy to be flying at 5000 to 6000 feet. It was an Aeronca L-3 liaison plane from WW2 and it was designed to operate out of rough terrain and to take heavy abuse. It wasn't designed to fly in mountainous areas. I guess that's why it was named a Grasshopper. It was fun flying those trips to Merced Antique Fly In, though . Used some ridge lift many times to clear some really big rocks.

Nah... As gatorrari said that's the old runway, every time I have been there it has been to TJSJ. I was down there doing some bidness on one of the other islands in that area and had a chance to fly around PR for a bit :)
