Anyone taken the 540 over the 750 for their planes and if so, why?

I haven't tried the Avidyne 540, but I have a lot of time with the Garmin 750/650 combination, and I like it a lot. We have the full boat setup with the integrated audio panel and transponders, which saves quite a bit of room in the panel.

The touch screen is not an issue at all, even in turbulence. You can brace your hand against a ridge in the top of the unit, and activate it easily. Plus, it has a knob for changing frequencies anyway, which is the most common thing you do.

I wanna like the Avidyne, but they are basically the same price as Garmin. So I'm not sure Avidyne or even the King 770 makes since as an alternative.

The Garmin is rapidly becoming the standard. When you go to sell it, I think it will be an easier sell and you will get more of your money back.
