Been there several times with Darth when I fly into LAX.... Interesting place that I hope sticks around.
Always a fun place to go. I haven't been there in probably 10 years, though-- glad to see it's still going!
I'd never heard of it until my wife and I went to her uncle's 90th birthday party there recently. What a fantastic place that must of been years ago when all the WWII guys were still around.
Most of the pics focus on the warbirds outside but the years of memorabilia inside is what I think is really cool. Food is pretty good in my opinion.... It seems like a lot of these "novelty" places are crap when it comes to the food but it's a good lunch place. If I lived in LA I would take the kids there to watch the planes coming into LAX.
There are several of these sort of restaurants around. I think there is a 94th Aero Squadron (?) at Van Nuys, for instance.
yep. I've never seen the appeal of Proud Bird....mediocre food (at best), building is right on the line between "vintage" and "dump", and most of the planes in their "museum" are in awful condition (and/or mockups). and the plane spotting is much better at I&O on the other side of the airport.
That is better than the proud bird for sure... but very little can bee seen of the aircraft on the field. Best spot I have found by far in about a mile up the road from In & Out, on the bridge that crosses Lincoln Blvd by the golf course. Your elevated above the fence line, just about level with the touch down point on 24 R and full unobstructed views of the Departures on the left side. Also full view of all the north side terminals. No burgers or mock up warbirds though
I take it you haven't been to Imperial Hill? Full panoramic view of the airport - where a majority of photographers hang out.
That's where I used to go until I found the other place. Trouble with the hill is you cant see the first half of the runways because of the trees and buildings...so no landings/touchdowns etc. You are also too far away to see the aircraft lining up. North Side is clear unobstructed views...and because no one knows where to park, there is only ever 1 or 2 people there.
