    Gorgeous..

I was up close and personal with one last year.. what a classic beauty.. and inside with wood etc is like something from another planet.

Agree. They just dumped one in Puget Sound a couple of days ago and recovered it with minor damage.

    Absolutely beautiful.

You can tell by the avionics that the big restoration must have been done early-mid 1990s.

    Why?

The VERY LAST thing I would do if I was restoring a Staggerwing, is fill the panel with a bunch of glass.
Even if I was restoring it today.

Glass panel would really diminish the value, I would think.

    Panel is gorgeous as-is.

I don't see any wood at all in the linked pics.

Is there another link or are you talking about another plane?

Well, the King digital avionics and KLN-88 are hardly vintage... the panel already in it looks nothing like what it had when it was new. I would say that ship has sailed...

Although, a new owner really could either keep it as is, put it back to a more "original" standard, or modernize it. I don't know why anyone would want to stick with the KLN-88 era of technology necessarily.

That one has a modernized panel as well. I think that actually demonstrates what great airplanes they are, in that people still want to use them as intended and are willing to take steps to upgrade them in simply ways which greatly improve their utility.

I'd love a Grumman seaplane, hairy chested radials, overhead throttles.. but modernised cockpit.. to me that'd be an attractive and perfect combo.

    Nice.

The Beech flip over yoke front and center.

That attitude indicator and HSI are no less wrong than an Aspen PFD would be in there. And the Aspen would be a lot nicer to actually use.

All I was saying was that a full glass panel would hurt the 'character' of the plane.
