I need a bit of help with the color of the shirt and cloth helmet worn by the WWII launching officer on the aircraft carriers. So far I have determined that it is currently yellow, flight ops. Was it the same in WWII? Any old Navy pilots out there to help another old pilot who didn't fly in the blue airplanes? I'm pretty sure that it was yellow but I want to be correct for the painting on which I am working.

Was color used for any of the deck cameras that early? If so have a look at You Tube. If not, this weekend is Memorial Day. TCM will be running a bunch of war movies. I think I saw Tora Tora Tora on the schedule.

You may want to try the research section, at the national Naval Aviation Museum located in Pensacola, FL

Just realized that for Korea Conflict, I was thinking of one of my all-time favorite movies,
"The Bridges at Toko Ri" from Michener's book.

They had Panthers and some propeller planes in the show.

Couple deck scenes here - movie made in the '50s:

Thanks for your response and trouble. It has helped. I pretty much know now that the yellow was always used for the aircraft ops deck crew. The "hat" was either the yellow colored cloth helmet or the "sun tan" cloth cap that the officers wore. I have determined in WWII that no protective head gear was used, just cloth helmets. Being a WWII vet I should have known more about this but I was USAAF not Navy.
