I know it's not the real deal, but I'm proud of her. I have been flying models since I was 14. I now compete on the international level in flying scale models. The pics were taken in Florida at top gun. Top gun is an invitational international event. It's an honor to compete there. This was my 10th year. My corsair is a dash 5 variant that flew in Korea. She is 1/3.8 scale. Weight is 86lbs. Power is a 250cc 5 cylinder 4 stroke radial engine turning a 32 inch prop.

If anyone is in Hawaii the weekend after Memorial Day, I will be flying a same size wildcat on ford island at the 75th anniversary of the battle of midway. Mine is in the butch o'hare scheme. Look me up. We can talk airplanes or Ferrari's or both. Barry

Wow. That's just jaw dropping. I've been an RC flyer since a teenager, and have a huge respect for the amount of work that goes into something like that. That first pic for all practical purposes, can't be distinguished from the real deal!

We go to the Naval aviation museum in Pensacola a lot, and their Corsair is one of our favorites. Great example you have there.

Very nicely done. I agree, the in flight pictures are difficult to tell it's not the real deal.

I thought the night fighters all had that big ugly radome hanging on a wing? Am I wrong on that one?

That is too much! Great model but not my favorite F4U, I like the -4 best. Never mind, that is a magnificent model. What kind of mechanism did you build to rotate the landing gear during retraction? Incredible.

    That is incredible!

Now all you need is a 100-foot-long scale model of an aircraft carrier to land it on. :)

This model cost around $12,000. The motor is $4250 by itself. All very top shelf radio system with redundancy. The airframe kit and landing gear are around $4000 before the build begans.

Amazing! .. I didn't know RC could get so big!

There must be a transition from kids at hobby store level and this..

Do you need special licensing above a certain size/weight/speed..?

The detail on it is so good, again I'm guessing by Korea they had a fix for the problem that caused them to tape over the seam of the access panel between the cockpit and the engine?

On many of the WW2 pictures that was taped up with white tape. As I recall they had a fuel leak at speed and it streaked up the windshield? Maybe it was oil from the oil tank?

I didn't make joe nall. It's too close to top gun for me. It's on the bucket list though.

The model has to under go a ince a year safety inspection due to its weight. She is 6 years old.

Here are pics of some of my other models.
Grumman wildcat. 1/4 scale. 250cc radial. Will be flown in Hawaii
Japanese Willow. WW2 trainer. Very rare model.
BAE hawk. 1/3.5 scale. 12 feet long. 4 feet tall on the gear. Behotec jet engine. Around 50lbs of thrust. Great great flying model. 2nd at top gun 2015. 1st in the US Scale Masters 2015

I built a custom home several years ago with a 3 1/2 car garage. Above the garage is my shop. I build and store them up there. I have collected some antique aircraft memorabilia to give it a museum feel. It's nicknamed "the place to be".

I would say that you have things put together very nicely. I ask again, how does the mechanism work that rotates the landing gear strut during retraction?
