Dear Ferraristi, Earlier this week, I have noticed that the parking light switch in the central console of my Testarossa is on and a green light is lit up on the dashboard I tried a couple of times to depress it, but it would not stay disengaged in the off position (would not stick in when you press on it). To figure out what was wrong with it, I took the central console apart step-by-step to get to the body of that switch, as shown in the attached pictures: 1) Turn the battery switch off 2) Unscrew the bolt positioned on the bottom of a tray with a small hex-wrench 3) Take out the tray 4) Unscrew the screw in the middle of the bridge using a small Phillips-type screw driver 5) Gently push the central switch panel assembly plate forward and up from below 6) Remember to put towels on the leather trim to protect it 7) Disconnect the switch contacts 8) Unscrew a mounting ring of the switch underneath the panel assembly. Be carefull not to drop the plastic ring and an aluminum washer into the mid-console 9) Use a small flat screwdriver to gently depress the click-in corner pins of a rectangular plastic trim part and push it up from under the panel assembly plate 10) Push the body of the switch up through the panel assembly plate 11) Using a flat screwdriver or a scraper carefully disassemble the switch body and pull it into two parts. Be careful not to lose the spring, which will literally jump out when you will be pulling the body of this switch apart. 12) Observe a tilting arm containing a 1mm pin that should be positioned inside the on-off latching switch mechanism. The mechanism is similar to that used in click on-off ball pens. Push the retaining pin into the body of the switch using a small nail and gently tap it out 13) Pull the tilting arm out and inspect it. As seen in the picture, it was slightly bent in the neck containing a 1mm pin, that should be positioned inside the on-off latching switch mechanism. 14) After straightening the tilting arm in the neck region using small pliers, all parts of the switch were assembled back together, as shown in the attached pictures. 15) The switch body was placed back into the central panel assembly. The whole procedure including time to figure out how to disassemble and fix the switch took no more than 30 min. If you encounter a similar problem, try to repair this switch yourself before spending lots of $$$. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have related to this experience. Cheers. BTW, the new switch (part #124087) costs ~$246.98 from RicambiAmerica: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=213511 Is there an alternative source? Does anybody know who the original manufacturer of this switch? Any web-links?
I seem to have the same problem in my 512 TR. The mecanism is the same so It shouldn't be problematic to fix. thanks.
Just checking back in. I removed the parking light switch that was stuck in the open position from the dash of my 1993 512 TR. The operation is much, much simpler than in the Testarossa as described above. The actual switch in itself is the same so I opened and operated as per the instructions and put it back together. Everything works fine now. The only thing you need to remember is that it is more difficult to remove the steel arm and pin (on my 512 TR switch it was anyway) so I had to bend the arm while it was still in the socket, but still worked. Cheers,
I have a 93 512TR and the parking switch doesn't latch. I've studied the comments/posts on this repair. I've removed the parking light switch ), and now I want to open up the switch itself, to adjust the clip inside. But I don't know how to open up this switch. I've attached two pics. Any suggestions on how to proceed? thanks! chris Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think if you look at Juri's picture above where the unit is disassembled, you will see there are the clips/plastic tabs(looks like mini ramps)/catch. I would assume the you would need to get multiple flat head screwdriver to push in those tabs simultaneously in order to pull the bodies apart. Those would correspond to the rectangular indents in your pictures.
The writeup was excellent. I would add this though, i had great difficulty pushing the panel forward and up on mine. I found it necessary to gently pull the side of the console to allow the panel to come up.
I followed the write up step by step and got the switch fixed ! Great write up ! I later realized that the switch has a small light bulb but the light will never on. I guess the bulb is blown. Can anyone tell me where can I get the replacement bulb ? Thank u !
As I recall that's a universal switch--rather than lighting at the switch Ferrari wired it so the light on the main instrument console illuminates (only) and not the switch. Some have decided they wanted the switch to light so they ran a ground wire to the (-) side of the bulb, but I don't believe that's how Ferrari intended it.
Thank you Tim for the information ! Ok so the bulb should not be on/off on the switch I will leave it as it is . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
