Good day All, Just adding additional doc... It looks as if 51077 is now in Europe: (Brummen, Gelderland, Netherlands) 1984 Ferrari 512i BB,, for sale Note the price change (increase) in only 2 years... Cheers, Sam Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sam- Do the European Boxers almost always ask for and bring higher prices than cars sold in America? Seems the asking prices are higher, but it's hard to keep up with this changing market. I will post up some info on S/N 18159 separately, sold at Bonhams in Paris.
Interesting... When I was looking at Boxers a few years ago I considered that car, but held out for a carbed BB. I think it was available for around $100k at the time, now offered at $USD 260k!
Good day DCNSX, Historically I have noticed European asking prices are almost always higher than here in North America. Sadly, I do not have any real data on how close the sale price is to the asking price, as I simply post info as I find it (mostly documenting the cars like their. location, condition, colors, etc). That being said, if the recent European auction prices are an indicator, they look to be getting more $$$ over there than here... although the gap looks to be closing (i.e. prices here are escalating). Cheers, Sam
I too called on this car and went the carb'd route....amazing asking price....even though euro asks do skew higher than US, the 'carbed vs injector' gap maybe not quite as dramatic as in the US? eg if a nice injected example is asking $260 usd ....what is the euro ask for a carbed? If similar % as in the US...euro carbs asking north of $325 usd?
They are more well known in Europe I think so across the board more highly valued.. The debate always rages on 365 vs. 512 (both carbed) and the BB512i. Here I think from fear the owners that jump in want the injected cars for drivability. None of the newbs is going to have the knowledge to seek and maintain a carbed car, IMO They were not even sold here, so that they are so rare, few dream of owning one.
For a long time in America $75K would buy a nice injected Boxer all day long. A clean one at Pinnacle Motorsports (Houston Texas) went begging for year at $72K. It was beautiful, like new condition. No, I don't recall the VIN! It sat next to AJ Foyt's silver/red example......that sold at Indianapolis for $128K. Then went to sleep at that shop, for years.....
1984 Ferrari 512i BB,, for sale Has now sold and I'm aware of an unadvertised UK sale between collectors that was very much north of that figure. For a couple of years I've been tracking Boxers but must say the past 6 months they seem to have become a hot topic. Interesting times. My advice for those that have one, hang on to it!
