Hey Everyone I'm new to the forum hoping I can get some help here! I bought my Testarossa 2 years ago I'm from Montreal Quebec Canada a place where the weather only permits me to take my car out for a few rides a year id say 4 or 5 times a year on average. Last year while driving my car to have it stored for winter my transfer case let go while i was driving. I kept hearing a tock!tock! sound while driving and 10 minutes into the drive going about 60mph it was as if the car just went into neutral and revved really high because my foot was on the gas. The car is now at a garage in montreal that repairs exotic cars the engine is dropped transfer case is out but we can't find a replacement transfer case for this car ! i was wondering if any of you's know a place preferably here in canada where I can get a transfer case or have mine rebuilt.
Not good... In this forum the problem you are referring to is called a differential failure. Very common fault on Testarossas, and there are solutions. You're in luck that one of the best and least expensive new differentials is made in Canada (albeit Ontario) by forum member Newman. I think he can do the installation/repair too...I would contact him. More info is in this thread. Let us know how the repair goes! Has anyone had the dreaded transaxle/diff failure? - FerrariChat.com
If it´s the internal parts of the transfer case (gears and bearings) let me know the part number that you need , i have some new parts at home wich i bought some time ago. I don´t need them since i sold my testarossa...
Ezio, even if your engine is now out and the transfer case is the culprit I'd have the differential checked. Remove side cover and check for cracked side welding of the carrier. This is a fairly commun problem on the TR. I think it would be a good idea to do it as a preventive upgrade if you don't want to experience another situation like the present one.
mine did the same noise: tok - tok - tok the gears from the pinion has been broken because of a broken diff-housing. expensive work, even I did all by myself, but the parts so if you can not do it by yourself you would need much money and a specialist who can do it right. good luck
Why do we not give the one and only right answer friends .... ? One of the 3 DIFF FAILURE threads ... And I'm sure there are still disbelievers out there who think this is "driver error" or something other than a BAD WELD AND A BAD DESIGN!
Check out my experience here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/boxers-tr-m/435156-another-diff-bites-dust%85.html The saga continues as now I have gearbox grinding noises. Will know more after tomorrow when we pull the side cover off and inspect the gearbox internals.
