The 20A fuse for the AC condensor fan in the front of my 1994 512TR keeps blowing and I need to check or replace the fan motor. How do I get to it? Has anyone replaced this fan before and is there an aftermarket unit that is better/cheaper?
I suspect I will have to remove the whole front clip.

Can't help with access on a 512 TR (not bad on a TR through the LH wheel arch panel). I'm sure a 512 TR owner can help with access--hopefully does not require removing entire front bumper but if so that's not too bad of a task.

512 TR new OEM replacement motor for a pretty good price here:

Ferrari 512 A C Fan Motor 152409 | eBay I think they probably have used motors too, they have broken a few 512 TRs lately. Myself I would pay the $ for a new motor. Blade can be easily swapped to new/used motor.

The OEM is SPAL and there are multiple SPAL and other generic motors on eBay for various other applications, could maybe find a suitable replacement. Their website also has a lot of technical specifications. I recall TR owners have swapped SPAL oil fans with a more generic application that worked fine. The SPAL motors are very simple--maybe rusted to where one/both won't rotate or (even better) shorted somewhere. Once you get access you should be able to diagnose pretty quickly. If not obvious (fan seized up) isolate each one by disconnecting opposite and see if fuse blows.

two ways to get to what you want and see all the parts.....
Remove the LHS wheel arch front cover (remove the wheel first)
Remove the carpets in the LHS boot (trunk) and undo the four 10mm bolts and then remove the cover.

You should be able to get to the fittings and cable connectors from there IIRC.

Phil: I've removed the LHS wheel and the access panel before - no fan access. I have not tried removing the carpet - is there a panel beneath on the 512TR?

On the 1st Gen. TR, you can also gain bottom access by removing the LH under tray--there are ~10 phillips head screws and the two lower bolts for the LH wheel arch panel, then the panel can be slid out from under the spoiler. This should give you some clue where the 512TR fans are--is there something similar in the center for the 512TR? You should see a ventilated (screen covered on the TR) section directly under the fans.

Nope, NADA, zip, everything in that area is solid and riveted in place.

I await the words of wisdom from Melvok the Magnificent, Supreme Master of the 512TR

Hmmm, don't know. I would be surprised if that part under the carpet was different than the Testa but I can understand the covers underneath the car being quite different. Mel (512TR Meister) I am sure will answer your question.

You have to remove the front bumper cover to get to it. Then you remove the condensor which will have the two fans mounted on it. When removing the bumper cover dont forget there are the two allen head bolts under the carpet.

Never looked into this matter ....

Removing full frontbumper is only 15 minutes .... no problem at all ! But then you see only the front of the radiator ...

Maby I will have alook later ... :)

Right Tim, you tempted me .... because it's 512TR :D

Diagram shows HOW it was installed ... looks so easy ! And it is imo :D

Photo shows that yo can only reach it by taking off the front bumper. Do you know how to do that ?

Then unscrewing the radiator (#8 and # 12) and at the same time the rack with vents can be reached imo !

(That little black box is my hidden radar detector).

How about that friends ? Good Luck Jim !

I knew Melvok the Magnificent would come through with the answer. Thank you so much. It looks as though I will NOT have to remove the condensor entirely (open the system) to access the fans.
I intend to replace both fans. Does anyone know of an aftermarket fan that will fit?

I just replaced my radiator fans at the last major- and from the factory - they were SPAL fans. I would assume that once you get them off - hopefully it will be the same.

Just a side note, the plug/connector can be different from SPAL - so you might have to cut the old connector and crimp to the new fan, or buy a new connector. The place I got my new connectors is

His fans are blowing the 20A fuse.

Same thing was happening with my radiator fans. After the Dave Helms upgrade, the right side was blowing the 20A fuse. When I checked the manual, it was supposed to be 25A fuse versus 20A. In talking with Dave, he said it suppose to draw only around 13A or so. For a few months, I ran on 25A on the problematic side, and 20A on the other. At the last major, I took the opportunity to swap out both fans(~$120/each) for peace of mind.

Trieu, was this on a TR or a 512? I blew the 20 amp fuse on my TR after the DH upgrade also. I replaced with same size fuse and no problems so far (about 2 months) but it did concern me. There is a replacement radiator fan listed in the crossover thread. I wonder if there is an equivalent crossover fan for the condenser?

It was on the 512TR. The specs below are for the radiator fans.

    spal Fans (30102054)
    11in High Performance Puller Fan
    For use w/ 30Amp Fuse @ 13V
    Airflow (CFM) : 1363
    Size : 12.36in x 11.93in x 3.70in

I don't see any reason why Ferrari would not use SPAL as the condensor fan - no need to reinvent the wheel.

Oh sorry - those were radiator fans. Still, if the condensor fans are SPAL, hopefully the same vendor will have replacements.

Mel: once I get them out, I'll test them and see if it is a simple short, but they are 20+ year old motors and this car has spent it's whole life in Florida, so the AC gets used quite a bit.
I'm getting close to 52,000 miles and she still purrs like a kitten - until I hit the throttle.
