I have been warned that running on my 30 year old original TRX rubber is a bad idea.

The car has 240 55 VR 415 on every corner. Is this correct? Who might have these?
Cooker is out, Longstyone ? Has anyone bought these lately?

My goal if to keep the car dead stock.

    Thanks

    Hi,

The 512 BBi was indeed supplied with 240/55 VR415 TRX.

There is a Michelin page showing the availability status of classic tires out of production:

Classic Tyre range | Michelin Classic

At the bottom of this page, there is a button called "Tyres available", which downloads a file called "Stock gb 01-09-2014" (the date changing with updates I think).

Right now, the 240/55 VR415 TRX are available (green flag), however the 215/70 XWX are not showing a status (not sure what this means).

Please note this is different from retailer stock status (e.g. Longstone Tyres).

On my 83 512 BBi, I had old front tires from 1994, the rear tires are 4 years old. The car felt unstable under braking or cornering condition (dry road). The car had new TRX front tires installed this year (these tires are from Serbia) and the car handles better now, the feeling of instability has gone.

    I hope this helps.

Took others advice and retired my 30 year old TRX tires and ordered new ones from Longstone in Britain, I'm in Oregon. Ordered them on a Wednesday and they arrived the following Tuesday with no shipping charge, unbelievable service! 240/55 VR415 TRX,
    350 pounds each.

Took them to local tire store for installation and balancing. I asked them to leave on the factory weights (lead) if they could. They put in some extra effort and got it done.

Old tires looked very good, only 6000 miles, but 30 years??

Yea, 30 yo tires are dangerous. If you had extra wheels (yea, right) you could mount and keep the old tires for concourse?

Save the old tires in case you want to show it someday as all original.

i chose to keep the original tires with air from maranello on the original rims; and then i got 2 other sets of rims - a set from a 512bb that wear some balloon bfgoodrich's and then a set of 17" image wheels wearing sticky kumhos.

The new TRX look identical to the 30 year old original TRX !
But I guess I lost the Maranello original air.

Thanks for link Rovexienus, very helpful.

Interesting Point: I just replaced the tyres on my '88.5 Testarossa with BF Goodrich and was worried that their tyres were only recommended for up to 9" wide rims. Interesting that the original 255/50/16 Pilot Sport tyres from Michelin are also only recommended for up to 9" rims. Maybe I can stop worrying now!!

    Hi

These tyres are no problem you can get them here http://www.borrani.com/michelin-tyres.html or Longstone Tyres.

If you PM me i shall do you a deal.

I have just had news from Michelin sadly that the later tyre the 240/45ZR415 TRX GT will not be made this year. this is bad news as we did hope to get them in Spetember.
