    Hi flat 12 lovers.

I would like to have honnest opinions to try to put a realistic value on my car. I made a decision that put me in a different Financial position and I MAY have to sell the car to bring some cash home. Before I take such a decision I'd like to figure a real market value of the car.

The car is appraised and insured for $61,000 cdn. But as you all know they don't really care if the car has a new NEWMAN diff and a new AP clutch. Also have new REDLINE NS trans oïl and Fresh oïl change(2 weeks ago).

The car is a Canadian car since new and has had 4 owners including me. I have full owner history and spoke to them all. I have service records only from 2009 which was the last engine out. The car is very clean and most viewers tell me it is impeccable. It show 35,000km and is all original. Has a Borla exhaust but I have the original one too.
Trans shift perfect and even fairly easy when cold in second. From my 2500km I drove this summer the engine and car runs excellent.

Car has ALL Tools and jack in PERFECT like new condition. All books. I also have 4 piece of black Ferrari luggage set(512TR). 2 folding keys and 2 regular black plastic keys. I have good compression and leak down test from last fall done by NEWMAN.

I don't want to sell the car but IF I HAVE TO I would like it to sell. When I advertise a car I want it to sell not just look at it for sale for a long time. I don't want to give it away or expect a record price.

What would be a fair asking/selling price for me and the buyer?

I don't know what the current exchange rate is, but in US$ lately I have seen a few 89, 90 & 91s advertised in the states between $65k and $95k, with the lower values for cars needing engine out service or other TLC and the higher values for completely serviced cars with low miles and offered by authorized dealers.

I have about $90k invested in my 10,800 mile 1990 after spending A LOT on a complete engine out service and everything else I could think of while the engine was out. I probably need to spend another $2-3k on cosmetic stuff and when I'm done should be at around $95k.

To me, a car in perfect running order, with very recent service and low mileage is worth that much.

So - to answer your question, with the upgrades you've done I would estimate your car being worth US$75k to a knowledgeable buyer if engine out service is due, $90k if it has already been done.

Just my opinion, though. I could be totally wrong. :)

What is the color combo and year? Sorry Claude... I can recall off the top of my head, Yellow? Any negative marks on a Carfax.....does carfax look at Canadian vehicles?
The upgraded diff and new clutch will have a positive effect. But the lack of a recent service might gravitate a potential buyer into one of two camps. A) A person who wants to be part of the engine out process or B) A person who wants a 'road ready' car.

The yellow will either fly off the shelf or sit. I wouldnt consider another TR but white. You are obviously looking for the 'I Love Yellow' guy. Good thing is I dont recal seeing a yellow TR in a while. But Annually the time to sell is spring for a sports car.

I was thinking the same range as sailquik...something in the 70's as is. Knowing Newman will help the sale as he is a respected Ferrari guy. Im sure he knows the car and can vouch for its condition.

Personally I would start at 77K and dont let the flippers get their hooks into it. Nothing would give you a stomach ache more than selling it for X and seeing it flipped for 20K more a month later.

Oh....send a bottle of nice Scotch to Msdesignsltd. Have him give you some pointers for taking pictures or send him digital copies (like how I just volunteered him?). If you do decide to sell, setting is everything. Try to get pictures in front of a nice house or parked in a hangar with private jets. Detail the hell out of it.

Honestly, I think your TR is only worth $100... Tell you what, I'll offer you $250 because I'm a nice guy. THink about it! These cars aren't going to appreciate at all, and with $250 you could buy a nice old Ford Escort or something! :)

I just paid 65K for a 1990 Red Tan Testarossa in a buy it now on ebay in June. Car has 15,900 miles on it, as far as I can tell NEVER had a belt change, is bone stock. Has one burned out wire in the fuse box feeding the AC. Has a seperate relay for that circuit. Car is VERY nice with I would say a perfect interior, and exceptional paint. The tires I think are original- yes 24 year old tires AND cam belts!

So compare that to your car with the upgraded diff and recent service- has to be worth 15 to 20K more. BUT your car is yellow, which to some may be great but to others not so much.
I followed Testarossa's for about 6 months and just pulled the trigger- no PPI, not even a personal inspection until I drove 1200 miles each way to pick up the car. I don't think I'm the only one smitten with what has to be the most UNDERVALUED cars in existance. This car makes a 328 look positively pedestrian. I paid MORE for a 328GTB in March than I did the TR, and the Testarossa just plain knocks my socks off.

ALL these cars should be selling for more money than they are. Good luck with your sale

If you decide to sell, do the homework to figure out all of the steps necessary to import the car into the US (49 states and California, if different), including shipping, customs, emissions, titling, registration and inspection and other DOT issues, etc., with cost and timing, and provide the information to potential buyers. Your pool of potential buyers is a lot larger in the US than Canada. JMHO.

Good comment, any idea what is involved in bringing a Canadian car into the US. Probably here in search, but I am lazy this morning :)
Claude, hate to see this, I'm sure you hate the concept even more. With a little patience, I would think $85-90Ktops? Color will be a limitation for some and pending belt service will create a price barrier as well. Let me tell you something you don't already know-sigh :(

    Good day jjmcd,

I understand your point... but the combination of all those variables is staggering. Secondly, if the the info provided has a mistake or is in error and the purchaser relies on this info, the mess it could create is equally staggering. That is not to say that Claude could not do some basic ground work (i.e. line up some transport carriers, get some basic transport quotes to various ends of the Country, ensure that the car could be US imported, etc), etc but it is really up to the perspective purchaser to do his homework. That being said, I agree that having some of these details already researched will make marketing the car in the US easier.

    Cheers,

    Sam

If I decide to sell I will do my best to help. The car is going to be 25 yo very soon and from what I understand it should be much easier after that. Also I can possibly deal the labour for the engine out with the next owner if there is one to be.
