Getting a bit long in the tooth and am having trouble with steering effort on my beloved 512TR. Anyone try or know about the electric power steering kits offered? They are supposed to be installed on the steering shaft under the dash
I did it about 3 years ago. PITA, but worth it. I had to make my own mount for the drive, modify the u-jointed extension tube, and several other things. I have a 91 TR and I found out that there are numerous changes made to the steering components over the years. Thanx John, you are the US expert on this ! The EZ-Powersteering is my best enhancement in the 512TR ! Fabulouis steering, it can be set to a speed on which it stops helping ... perfect !
Have your alignment shop adjust the caster. If dialed in ....more than OEM spec, you will experience a dramatic reduction in steering effort. The only downside is the car is more sensitive at very high speeds. This is a cost effective way to lighten up your steering while keeping your car stock and original.
Won't do anything for parking or low speeds. I have wider tires in the front and rear which means a larger friction patch. John
