Hello, I am new in this forum. I am from Germany and I am searching some pics or adresses for buying one of the glass cover or bonnet for a my testarossa, built 1991. I hope you can understand my question. ;-) Regards Achim
Hallo Achim, Please introduce yourself here ... where do you liv (in Germany), how did you get your F car and something aabout the car..... This helps ... so for instance I live in Holland ... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I bought mine from Norwood, great quality and good value The also sold me the F40 big Brembo brake kit and sourced the HRE 547 18" wheels and P-Zero tires for my TR. Great business people. I conducted all transactions via email and credit card. It takes less than 5 minutes to install and is very simple. The rear deck brake light is much longer too.
Nicely done! I assume you used tempered glass? I have my old cover for sale if anyone wants to modify and use it on their car
Yeah tempered clear Glass, I wanted to use a oem engine cover to still have my third brake light in there, the cover I found came from TRUTLANDS in Atlanta. I measured like a hundred times and then cut it, so all went well and glass install was no big deal for my glass guy. I am pretty excited about how it turned out. Thanks Mike
Again, nice job Mike. I probably would have gone the same route if I had thought it through before I sprung $1800 plus shipping for the Norwood cover. Your glass guy did a good job. I'm thinking that a good fiberglass guy could use an existing cover as a mold or template for CF cover. If Norwood needs 20 orders to go back into production, this might be a good garage or basement biz for someone else to meet demand. I suspect other model owners would like to be able to view their engines as well. I think it looks fantastic on the TR and truly updates the look of the car. I'm obviously not a Ferrari "purist" because I've also modified my 360.
I realize that.....................but this does not have a seam/joint it appears where the ends of the gasket meet/join....it looks as though it is one piece.... So I was asking of the owner, where did he/she acquired the gasket and also what is the manufacturer, or supply house, or application that the gasket may have originally been for? Just a question Me
Exactly, it appears to be seamless. The seamless gasket would set the size of the opening/glass. Source would be awesome for the DIY crowd. Then all we would need is a cutting template?
I have thought about doing this as well. Here would be my approach: Take an existing chicklet or make a fiberglass mold. Cut out the hole. Then make a fiberglass lip or ledge so that the glass sits flush. The outer 1/2 inch bottom of the glass should be tinted black. Run a bead of high temp black silicone along the lip. Set the glass in place and finish sealing with the black silicone. The easy part is getting the glass cut to your dimensions. The hard part is getting the outer edges tinted. I dont know if a glass company could do this or if you would have to use window tint/paint etc. The tint would hide the black setting caulk. But a seamless gasket would definably eliminate a lot of work.
I may have sourced "the" gasket....still have a few more negotiations to do but it's looking good. I will keep the forum informed! By the way, are there at least 10-20 owners that would be interested in acquiring a gasket/surround, template and precut tempered glass? In otherwords a complete "Kit"? Just wondering Me
I would be in for a DIY kit. At the worst I could make a chicklet.....Fiberglass isnt rocket science, just messy.
I have a deck lid cover available for sale for the prototype fitting complete with the third brake light. It's been stored in my shed since I fitted my TR with the Norwood design. $1,000 for my old cover.
In response to the gasket we used. It is a standard windshield gasket, however the seam I had put on the inside so the outside is seamless. My window guy didn't want to do it that way but I did not want to see the seam on the outside. The gasket was also glued and was a tight fit. I cut the hole first and then the glass guy did his magic, about an hour later it was done and 10 minutes later on the car and wala.. Hope this helps.
Whose your guy so I may contact him for the correct gasket material/part#/etc.? Send a private message or an email if you like. I still have no idea why there is a seam on one side and not the other.....doesn't make sense........but............... Thx Me
