I just picked up a second TR and when I removed the dash I found that someone installed this antennae under the leather below the window. My other TR does not have it and hence no radio reception. Is anyone familiar with this and know where to get one?

The first picture is the antennae portion that fits below the leather. There is a gray wire which is the antennae and a small black wire which is just a ground.

The second picture shows a larger gray wire with a standard antennae jack on it which plugs into the back of the radio.

My other car has the antenna in the windshield but the connector is a single wire and there is not connection from the windshield wire to the radio. I've asked before and no one know what that wire is. This one works so if anyone is familiar with it I can switch it.

There is only one wire from the windshield but the connector looks like this and won't connect directly to the radio. It isn't the standard radio male antenna connector

What the 911 guys have is an amplifier that the single wire from the windshield plugs into and a radio style cable/connector and then a +12 volt connection (metal mounting tab provides the ground. I can take a picture of mine if you need it. FWIW.

Correct Jim, any carshop can help you to connect this to the car radio ... you can -but don't need- an amplifier ...

I've been to radio shops and they have no idea. That is why I am hoping for help here.

you only need to connect the single antenna wire from the windshield to the center pin on the antenna cable going to your radio. recommend soldering that connection. the outer metal socket on the antenna is the cable shielding connection which you do not need as the shielding is grounded inside the radio. recommend cutting that off or at least taping so you do not create the little known but highly feared ground loop.

Radio Shack likely has what you need. If not but a generic antenna from Autozone, Pep Boys etc. and use that wire from that.

Does anyone have a photo of the connection at the antenna/windshield base? I think mine is broken there but haven't investigated yet, just wondering what kind of repair I might be looking at.

OK Let's see if this works this time. Here is a pic of the Porsche 911 part. The single wire in the pic connects to the switched power on the radio (maybe the amp turn on wire). The wire from the windshield plugs into the female connector on the box. The mounting lug for the box gets grounded (-12 volts). And the co-ax cable plugs into the radio. The box does improve the antenna sensitivity and it should help filter out engine radio freq noise by raising the signal level. If your car does not have the antenna in the glass, you can solder a 20 gauge insulated but unshielded wire to the center wire in the co-ax cable and just route it under the leather trim on the inside of the windshield, close to the glass; probably 35-40 inches long is fine. Be sure to insulate the solder connection so it doesn't short to ground. This part is from a wrecking yard. FWIW
