Hi Guys following on from 'diff' thread - the diff sounds ok but I would take Mel's Advice and change anyway but and its a big but car has a fairly audible whine in 2nd gear and its worse when cornering in 2nd so I guess its a gearbox overhaul thats required to replace 2nd gear on the main shaft ?? issue is Ferrari 2nd gear is NLS for some of the gearboxes so in a quandary any input welcome
What you need is a oem set of 2 nd gear imo; never 1 gear but Always a set which was made together ! So they have the same engraved numbers !! See last but one pic ! If you find only one gear somewhere (used parts) worn and only replace that it may result in again noise when installed .... you don't want that imo ... In my gb we foud wear and I was able to obtain/buy a oem gearset out of an exploded box ... but I was Lucky ! Last photo shows why I exchanged that set ... would not like to take any risk of breaking off a teeth ... And while it is all open now ... exchange the diff at the same time ...
